I know you can extend the fuel tank on a 109 (MOD), can you do it on an 88? |

Extend the tank? I've head of adding a second tank, which can be done on an 88" too. On an 88" you lose the storage under the seat, though. Is that what you meant? Or do you mean, replace the tank with a larger tank? I don't think you'd have room for a larger tank on an 88".... -L |

Sorry, yeah, I'm wondering about adding a second tank. Is there a need to cut sheet metal or will it essentially bolt in? |

Not "bolt-in". Have to add an extra outrigger onto the chassis to support the gas-tank. The simplest way to go would be with a military-style tank, but you'd have to lift the seat cushion to get to the gas cap. It'd be possible to actually cut the tub and plumb in a second external gas-cap (mirroring the other side), but that really does get into some fab-work on the aluminum. It's something I may evenutally do in the future, but for now, I'm not going to bother, just gas up more often.... -L

Somewhere on the net, I saw a page where someone had installed a J**p CJ-5 tank in between the rear frame rails on an 88. Almost a drop in. Used the original J**p filler mounted on right hand rear panel. Had to run the exhaust different, but it gave him 15 (?) more gallons. Got the link somewhere.... |
