On my 109 the suspension is very hard it is a 3/4 ton so it doesn't like to give alot. Can you take out the leaf springs pretty easy with them like take 1 or 2 out will that make it ride better or is it a bad Idea. I don't want parabolic I read were on washboard roads they tend to bounce alot making you loose control. Is there any good places to buy softer springs.

Brad,

Let me ask: just how fast do you drive your 109 on washboard roads?

I think you need to find something that has parabolics on it and drive it and see what you think for yourself. Maybe check out Art's Guns and Rovers board, too... http://pub145.ezboard.com/fgunsandroversfrm1

You should drive a genuine 1 ton.

First off take it down to your local spring shop and see what they say. Spring stacks have a tendency to corrode and flatten, esp in 30 yrs, and the resulting friction results in a much stiffer ride. Could be other issues as well. But keep in mind these things dont ride like modern vehicles.

As far a parabolics, there plenty of opinions (see all the boards as LNB indicates), some well founded some not, both positive and negative, and differing on manufacturer. I think some of this is purely due to misplaced expectations and generalizing from specific examples. In many cases bad or a lack of shocks are a factor contributing to poor performance. But for general reasonable offroad and onroad use, they operate as intended and improve ride. Take a look under a late model F150 you'll likely find a parabolic spring. If your heading to Moab, well, they might not be a good choice. Then again neither are 10 spline axles, esp when they are 30 yrs old.

Have the springs checked by a good shop. If it turns out they have run their life, dont be afraid of parabolics. My 109 has parabolics, Rocky Mt that came with the truck. With my limited demands on them I am satisfied. If your really bothered, you could always throw in a coiler chassis.
