I have a fully loaded RRC (see www.specialtytools.com/rrcforsale) and you will see the specs on it. Anyhow, someone has offered me a trade on a fully restored '74 Series III. The vehicle is xMOD and was imported by someone I know so I am not concerned about that part. It has been refitted with a flip down rear gate to accomidate the soft top and also has a hardtop with flip up gate. The vehicle has been restored completely and has all new interior components and the work was done by a professional 4 years ago, another man whom I know.

I am just not sure about a Series III I was really looking for a xMOD Defender 110 but, from what I understand these are very similar vehicles. I was told that a kit exists to convert the esthetics to a 110 look. Does this exists? I guess I would just like some general opinions before I go through with this. I am quite keen on the RHD though. :-) Thanks!

I don't know man, your RRC is very nice, but I just can't imagine you'll get that out of it. Of course, all markets are different. I guess it depends on what you really want. Have you spent any time on the info sites?

Oh! NOW I understand..... I saw your other posts before I saw this one....

I don't know of a "kit", per se, but it can be accomplished easily enough. See my other post for a bit of a list....

I'd suggest checking out Art's board at http://pub145.ezboard.com/fgunsandroversfrm1 too, a lot of helpful folks there....

Good luck!

I've admired your RRC at the HRM site. Sorry you haven't been able to sell it.

Unfortunately, as I am sure you've realized, mods rarely add any great value to a truck, no matter how good they are.

If you see the restored SIII as equal value, then I say go for it.

Part that rangie. Range Rovers with high miles are a dime a dozen. Theres a rust free silver 92 with 90K miles here in town for 2500 bucks and the guy CANT get rid of it. Ebay all the fluff off your rangie to get as much as you can for it. If you really want a defender get a defender they are very different from a series. Parts are going to be easier for a series than for an early defender though . . .go figure. And while you may like RHD, its not a "valuable" feature.

Ike Goss is actually suggesting someone buy a Defender? Has the Earth stopped turning on its axis?

Hhmm, $2500 for a '92 with only 90K and no rust, sounds like a good ride for the kid.

Peace,
Paul

Jason,
Not to speak for Ike, but.....

Ike is KNOWN for his love of the Series Land Rover, and his, um, lack-of-fondness for post-Series Land Rovers. And, he speaks honestly.

So, my understanding of his view is that a)Defenders are overpriced crap (which I can understand that point, I'll concur that they're overpriced for what they are); b) while he loves his Series, he understands what it is, and is not... a lot of folks who haven't lived with a Series don't quite understand that, and end up being in a "bad relationship" once they get one. It's the kind of thing where, if its right for you, you'll know it... a Series either fits, or it doesn't....

Ike, correct me if I've missed the mark....

And, I poke him in the eye every chance I get, just like he does with every coil-sprung rover.

It's all in fun, at least on my side. As for Ike, I'm not sure, he might sic that mean dog on me again.

Personally, I think that if one is sufficiently fond of the marque, it is only a matter of time until they own a Series truck. the true Rover lovers will keep the Series truck.

Peace,
Paul

I've owned a Rangie and it was a nice vehicle, owned 2 Disco and still have one. My favorite has to be my '68 88" that I fully restored myself. Wouldn't trade it for a Rangie or a Disco. Just my opinion, call me Ike, if you want to (couldn't hear you over the road noise anyway ;-)

Jason - Youre going to spend a lot of money on a defender no matter the vintage. An Ex-Mod truck like you are wanting will run you 12-20K and will likely have a 4 cylinder diesel or turbo diesel. It will also more than likely need work being around 15 years old. Amazingly underpowered, in need of work, your theoretical defender will be expensive to get parts for, probably be semi-illegal to own here in the states, and very likely be troublesome as those motors arent really known for longevity. . .

Leslie - yes, series trucks arent for everyone. Some folks that want a series really shouldnt own one.

Paul - Yes I like to poke fun at coilers, esp you cause youre a good sport. Wingnut the attack labrador is getting more vicious by the day.
