Anyone have the Volvo Portal axles installed on their Series truck? They are like the Unimog axles that are geared at each wheel so you have massive clearance. Page 80 in May LRO mag.

I've seen that truck. Very bad-ass rig. I would even get a Series if it sat on some portals.

There are several trucks in the Malay club that have the portals. If you knew they were pretty much a bolt in you might think even harder about it. If you werent a dyed in the wool coilsprung sissy you might just get a series anyway . . .

I want portals for my 109 :-(.

Stupid bank account with no money in it...

Ike, Could you elaborate on how it is a bolt up installation? My mind is clouded and cannot comprehend.

I've looked for the Volvo axles around here. I called the local Volvo truck center and they'd never heard of the C-303. Where can I get them in the US?

Max,
What do you want me to say? They are close to being a bolt in. IE they dont take many mods to fit in a rover. Like very few.

Brad,
Since your local volvo truck center probably sells semis and not old swedish military trucks, Im not surprised. Try www.rockbuggysupply.com.

Haha, thanks Ike. I definately just figured out yesterday that these were old military trucks only made from '74 to '80. I did find a guy that can sell a pair, shipped and packaged to here, for $2800. Not bad at all considering the prices I've seen. What's the gearing in these things and what mods are needed? I've been told they all have vaccum-operated lockers, which would be just awesome.

Gears are 7.12 or 5.96 I think or thereabouts. Minor spring perch mods, brake lines, Did you find them at rockbuggy supply or other?
