I am moving from NY to Idaho for the summer to work and would VERY MUCH like to tow my '67 SIIa 88 with my '94 Disco. Does anyone have any suggestions? If I had time, I would weld up my own trailer but I think I might have to settle for renting a tow dolly from U-Haul. People keep telling me to just leave the series home, but what the hell did I just build it for, to let it sit all summer in the driveway instead of letting it play in the Sawtooth Mountains? Anyway, what do you think?

Leave the disco at home and drive the series.

I flat tow mine w/o any problems. All you need is a tow bar. The one I have is a Reese brand. There are several others that work just as well. The only thing you need is someway to attach it to your front bumper. I even load it with camping gear and use it as my trailer on long trips. Before you do this make sure that the brake pads on the disco are in great shape and give yourself plenty of stopping distance. If you want some pictures of what my brackets look like then email me. If I don't answer your email w/i a day or so then just call me. (813)714-8691. Lately me email has been giving trouble.

Good Luck

Rico,

Are you dropping the drive shafts or anything to free up the driveline before you tow?

Thanks

For the longer trips I have. I just disconnect them from the diffs and tie them up out of the way. I disconnect the front and the rear.
Did you get a tow bar set-up ?
Good luck with the trip.

Rico, I did in fact just order a tow bar today. I got a universal bumper mount type from JCWhitney.com along with a ball and mount. The tow bar mounts directly to the bumper with quick disconnects. Apparently no special brackets needed. It should mount to my square bumper without any problems (I hope!). I emailed you a couple days ago about those brackets but your email must have not received.

I'm now trying to figure out my tire situation. I can only afford one set of tires but need tires for both vehicles. I'm thinking about transplanting the newish 235/85/16 Dunlop Radial Rover R/T's that are on the series to the Disco, as the Discovery has almost bald stock Michelin XPC's. I'll then get a set of mud terrains for more dedicated off-road time with the series. This is another project in itself though, as I have to modify the Disco to accomodate the 235's and cannot afford bigger springs at the time. We'll see what happens!

Anyway, thanks again for all your help and thanks for the luck. I'll need it. I have my fingers crossed that I'll be able to tow out the series. My summer depends on it (or at least the recreational aspect of it!)!

Thanks again,
Ethan Makarowski
