Before I tear into things I need to see if any one has a problem not keeping heat out of the vehicle from the heater. Summer is here and I don't need it. I run a SIIA 1971 88

I'd check to make sure the cable is connected to the valve on the water hose to the core. Mine was loose and would not close the valve all the way.

What's really cool is that my heater cable now works great, but my vent cable turns on the heat!

It would also help if you'd lose those white letter street tires... :-)

Are you sure it's the heater?

I get so much heat coming from the engine and gearbox, that I don't need a heater much in the winter (I'm in Georgia, which has pretty mild winters)

But during the summer can get rather intense!

I think Max was telling me that if you put in some high quality heat and sound insulation that it helps out with that tremendously. Can you verify that heat is actually being pumped out of the vents?

Don't want to be a smarty pants here....but my IIa doesn't have a "heater control valve" as such. There is what looks like a garden hose valve on the top rear of the head. Close that valve and coolant shouldn't circulate thru the heater core.

Keith-

You beat me to the answer. Sometimes though, the rubber in the valve deteriorates and the valve won't completely shut no matter how tight its screwed down (bad idea anyway). But even with a bad valve shut, there should be less heat going to the heater.
