I have a 96 Disco. The Series bug has started to appear again.

I am going tonight to look at a 65 Series IIa. I talked to the guy last week. From his description. It sounds really overpriced. 3K for a non-runner, (States it is just fuel pump) He said there was rust on the frame, which he was just planning on patching. Don't know about the bulkhead yet, but there is probably rust there also. Maybe is has a gold plated steering wheel, and fine rich corinthian leather seats?? I just don't see the price tag reflecting what I have heard. I guess I will see tonight.

I have never been good at talking people down from a price... especially one that high. I would think 500.00 is reasonable. Any suggestions??

Thanks,
Joe

If the chassis needss patching, it really needs replacing, IMHO, uless you're really good at welding rust.... and, the bulkhead will probably need work too, and.... it's not running, so you don't KNOW that all it is is a fuel pump, so.....

No, I wouldn't go for it at that price.... I'd classify it with some other ones I know of, where the owners are letting what bits are left rust away because they "think" they're made of gold....

IMHO, FWIW....

Interesting, I have a 96 Discovery, and I went to look at a 65 Series IIa today. I know it isn't the same vehicle, but still a strange coincidence.

I say if you want a little project, then decide on your price ($500?) and don't try to talk him down, just tell him that's as far as you can go.

Be ready to walk away knowing that you've made a good faith offer based on the info you have. If he won't take your price, shake hands, have a nice day.

It actually had a decent frame. Except for the chassis outriggers.
But everything else was crap. Every piece of glass was broken, no seats, no brakes, bulkhead in bad shape, and it didn't run. Roof in bad shape and held together with PVC pipe. I offered $600.00.
According to him, "some guy offered him $2000.00 last week. And he had to think about it." I gave him my number and told him if the offer falls through to give me a call.

Yeah, right, he should have taken the $2000 and ran.....

I don't know that I'd have even paid the $600 for that, though..... I suppose if the body is there: tub, seatbox, wings, doors, bonnet, radiatro panel.... and the engine is complete, and the axles and transmission and transfer case are okay, yeah, it'd be worth it, but, don't pay any more, IMHO, you should be able to find a better one for not a lot more than that....

Good luck, whatever happens....
