I really want a soft top, but ended up with a nice 109 station wagon. I've been pondering switching out the tubs, taking off the safari top, getting a hoop set and hood and having my convertible. Is it a crazy notion to change out a perfectly good SW to make a two door 109? What about resale value down the road? Thanks, Jeff |

Why not a 5-door soft-top? Remove the roof and sides, get a 109 soft-top, and do what you need to to get it to work.... it's been done before, looks cool, makes sense.... No need to change rear tubs.
If you want a 3-door instead, I'd sell the 5-door and get a 3-door. David's got a couple of 109's at the shop, a 3-door pickup, a 3-door soft-top, a 5-door SW, and a 5-door w/ a 3-door hard-top on it... http://www.thatchedroofgarage.com -L -L

I hadn't thought of the 5-door soft-top. That would be interesting ... you don't happen to have any source for pics of such a beast? I'd be real curious to see. Thanks for the idea, Jeff |

Over on Art Bitterman's board is a fella by the name of Simon (Harding, I think), who has done it before.... http://pub145.ezboard.com/fgunsandroversfrm1 Either search the archives, of find and email Simon, and he'll be able to help.... -L

There are pictures - scattered about - of 5 door covertables here http://www.landroverworldflorida.com/TONYS___MAIN/Page_4x.html I don't know who makes them for him, but I think its a great look. I've heard Badger Coachworks (?) makes them, but have never checked. I have a 66 109 5 door and am really thinking about this option for the spring. Love to know what you turn up |

almost forgot. Wise Owl ( in last newsletter ) says that he will have new middle doors with a removeable top, so I wonder if helps or hurts the possibilities.... |
