Leslie, Where can I find a raised air intake for it? Who makes them for the series trucks?? Mantec, Arb ??? I have a set of 235/85-16 BFG MT's with this trucks name on 'em! I'd also like to know what lockers are available for these trucks? |

Hank, Mantec makes a snorkel. You can get a snorkel from BP, RN, AB, etc. But, its going to be a heck of a lot cheaper to make your own snorkel and it will look about the same. As for lockers, the usual suspects are available: Detroit, Trutrac, ARB, etc. Basically every locker that you can get in a disco, the company also makes one for a series rover. But watch out because the half shafts are extremely weak (like, they can break while you are driving on pavement). Of course a quick upgrade can take care of that. Have fun with your new rover! Hank, You are one lucky man! I've been "threating the wife" to purchase a Series for years now and a few weeks ago the bug bit me again, and harder than ever, when I checked a few out in person - and it hasn't subsided. It is absolutely killing me. Congrats and enjoy!!! Jay |

Eric, Mileage is one reason, deep water is another. Plus it should produce a little more torque on the low end. Jay, Thanks. I've been out of the Rover scene for a while building Zuks. I concur with Max, make your own.... there is actually a genuine Land Rover snorkel when you can find one, but it's pricy (~$500). Go to a tractor-parts store and look at the older Ford tractor "mushroom cap" air-intakes, it's the exact same top part, then you need some pipe and tubing...... And again as Max said, Detroit, ARB, TT, whatever you want you can get. The stock gearing is a 4.7 in the diffs, FYI... better axles are good if you're gonna do anything to the diffs... Eric, When looking at Series Rovers, condition is the more important judge, over features. For example, a lot of folks prefer a trop-top station wagon over a soft-top, but a good soft-top trumps a SW that has a bad chassis, all else being equal. This is a solid truck, nothing fancy, for a good price. You don't necessarily go looking for or avoiding a 2.25 diesel versus a 2.25 petrol, you buy on overall condition.... in neither case are you buying a sports car, both engines are durable lumps, they both just lug along. Most folks are more familar with the workings of a petrol engine, so they seem easier, but the fact about diesels is that either they run, or they don't... they're really simpler. If it isn't running, you probably need to bleed air out of the fuel-line, and that's about it... otherwise, it'll chug along. Diesels are easier to set up for wading, if you're finding yourself in lots of water frequently, like doing stream crossings to get to your favorite hunting spot. Currently, diesel is cheaper here than regular gas, too, so not only do you get better mileage, you are spending less per mile. They are a bit smellier, but not overly so; they're a bit louder, but not overly so; maybe a tad slower, but not by much.... (this particular one is actually faster than my 2.25 petrol was before I took mine apart.....). Glad to see it's gonna have a good home. -L

A TD5? Why? The TD5 has a CPU, I'd not want to inflict that on a Series.... You can do a 200Tdi or a 300Tdi easily enough... The engine and transmission fit well enough... you'll probably have to fabricate a transmission tunnel adapter for the bulkhead, maybe even modify the bulkhead a bit. I wouldn't trade out axles, just to avoid having to mount the leaf-spring perches to a coil-axle, but you can change gearing and add lockers and HD axles, etc., and be fine. -L

David, It still has the original style spring packs on it now...rides like a dozer. As a matter of fact I put about 50 miles on it today. I had a chance to putter around and get accustomed to the sounds and feel of driving a series. My right elbow is trashed from smashing the door about a million times, but other than that, I'm hooked! This thing is in decent shape, needs some minor cosmetic work though. Thanks again David. and thanks to Leslie for pointing me in the right direction! H |

Hank, Thing is, no Series is perfect, even the expensive ones. The best you can do is get the best Rover for whatever budget. You're starting with a much better Series than where mine started out at... and you got it for a better price than most other Rovers in similar condition. I think you did good. Sure, it's not perfect, but, you've got room for personalization that way. Make it into what you want it to be..... And, your elbow will get used to it.... -L

Leslie, I think I did great! I am taking it to the duck camp this weekend. It looks like the Blazer is going to sell tomorrow, so the budget just got bumped another $1500. So I'll have that to throw into it in the coming months. I'll keep you posted on how things are going! Hank
