Has anyone here or does anyone know of someone who has lifted their Series Rover by mounting the leaf spring on top of rather than under the diffs? I have a friend that told me about doing that, said it was a jeep trick. Looks easy enough to do. |

doing a spring over. you will need new spring mounts for the top either cut the old ones off the bottom and relocate them on the top or have some made. you will have to move the shock mounts as well. I say keep it the same with mine if I do it most of the situations where I have laid it on its side or almost did. I would have most definitly with a spring over, just because it would be like a 4" lift. |

Tom, Tim Cooper at BCB Offroad has a Series 1 107 . I THINK he made it a leaf-over. He also had wheels made so the track is wider. Has 33's or 35's, a locked rear end and V-8. The Rubicon is a walk in the park and does as well as or better than the custom-built rock bugies on toughest trails in Moab. Matt Jackson has a Series 2 or 2A with 33's or bigger meats, wide rims with a decent offset, parabolics, lockers and a V-8, it will go anywhere any built FJ or CJ or ? will go Give them a call - 805-237-0738. |

Just get longer (OME) shakles, much easier. Or, if you are looking for only 1.5 - 2" then do like I did and just get some heavy duty OME's with new parabolics. http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net/pictures/iiaaftersprings2.jpg It is hard to tell in that photo because I used 33" tires on the "new" version, so the lift does not look as drastic, but besides the lift from the tires, I got about 1.5" with heavy duty springs on, (which have an extra leaf, making them lower than the regular duty springs.) But getting a set of shakles made or just buying some from OME would be really pretty cheap - about $100 I would guess for top-of-the-line hardened. |

If your just doing a mild lift say 2-2.5 with just shackles you will need to put in some castor correction shims as well. Doing a SOA is quite a bit more involved...you're looking at not only relocating your perches but also turning the axle to correct driveline geometry as well and lengthening your drive shafts, brake lines etc.... |

Leslie, Not sure how well you remember my Rover, but I'd like to determine which shackles were on there...I've thought about replacing them as well since they're approaching the rusty side of life. Eric Y. |

Doesn't the driveshaft hit the frame crossmember with anything much more than 2" of lift? I've heard that has to be modified if you do more than just parabolics or shackles.

Eric, Sorry I missed this.... I can't say that I recall the shackles on your Series, but I would expect them to be regular SIII 88" ones. I doubt you need to really replace them. Wire-brush them clean and repaint them, IMHO..... -L
