I'm cleaning up the rear axle to re-paint and it's got a really wierd piece attached to it. There's an extra piece welded on below the axle casing on the drivers side that runs from where the diff. goes to the bit that the springs attach to. And right by where the springs attach, there are two small holes on either side. As far as I can tell there's no mention of anything like this in the green bible. Any ideas why it's there, and what I'm dealing with? It almost looks like someone put it on for extra strength??? The pics are here: http://www.webfields.com/axle/ Thanks, Alex |

Alex, do yourself a favor and have the entire perimeter and any holes welded up. Water, dirt and sand gets in there, can't get out and rots the axle housing. Before you know it you'll have 90 weight leaking from it and then it will rust out enough to bend or brake the housing. I went through 2 housings before I smartened up! Jason T. |
