something to consider before you embark on this journey. the 109 in a Series 109 designation represents the wheelbase in inches of the Rover. in this case 109". the wheelbase of a Disco 1 last I remember is about 100".

if you happen to have a Disco 1 and a 109 handy, buy a Designa chassis or equal and start from there using the parts from each. in this case, the body will line up on the chassis and will be able to fasten to it. use the drivetrain from the D1 and the remaining parts of the 109.

if you want to see some refurbished Series Rovers on a new chassis, see http://www.eastcoastrover.com/coilsprung.html

good luck.

mmm, 300tdi..... mmmm. Maybe even one of the International 2.8 Powerstrokes that you hear people rave about (but no one has).

funny you mention a Dormie. my very first introduction to LRs was in a friend's Dormie. very cool vehicle although not that great off-highway due to lack of power.

as the cliche goes - "you can have your cake and eat it too" - if you want with the Dormie. just depends how much time and money you want to spend.

Michael Slade's 145 http://www.tawayama.com/ gives an example of what can be accomplished based loosely on a 110 concept.

my 109 http://www.eastcoastrover.com/Thompson109.html shows what can be done following a different yet similiar route as its based on 110 running gear.

here is a 110 "Dormie" with a 300Tdi http://www.eastcoastrover.com/67.html

thats the one cool thing about LRs. you can make them into whatever you want.

hey jamie,
you have experience with east coast. so it looks as thought they do awesome profesionla work. every thing looks clean and tidy. so how long did it take for them to complete the work on your 109. and if you dont mind be asking a rough cost when complete.
i would love for them to rebuild this rover but the cost can be an issue.

have used ECR now for about 10 years now. yes, they do tremendous work in my opinion. the difficulty is the timing as they have a pretty large backlog of work especially if you're looking at an intense restoration project.

it took about a year for them to complete the 109 which given what I wanted done to it was quite reasonable. I also was living in Japan at the time so there wasn't any real time constraints on my part.

I sold my '95D90SW at the height of Defender craziness for U$36k and that was the seed money for the project. will not tell you the final number, yet, from seeing what went into it, you should get an idea.

trust this helps.
