I have a deluxe bonnet with an indent for a spare tire but no carrier mounted as of yet. I had the usual carrier (332792) mounted on my old bonnet, a standard, but was never really happy with the way it secured my 235/85/16 spare. Going with securing straps in a military fashion isn't very appealing to me either. I do have an almost perfect spare tire mount off my old station wagon rear door (I've converted to a truck cab) and was wondering if anyone here has tried to mount that carrier to their bonnet? If so, was the attempt a success? I know that one ton 109's used an almost identical mount on their bonnets to secure the larger 9.00/16 spares they came equiped with so I figure the idea should work. I'm just looking to hear from anyone regarding their opinions and personal experiences.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

I have a 15" wheel wearing a 31x10.50 BFGoodrich Mud tire mounted to the standard factory bonnet. The tire itself is practically touching the bonnet around the tire rubber for all practical purposes, but does not rattle. Nevertheless, I would encourage you to be careful not to mount a tire too wide as it will leave an area for potential water stagnation. I plan (one of these days) on mounting a smaller spare and moving the 31x10.50 to a swing away spare tire carrier in the rear. Anyway, the tire I have mounts without a problem and the standard mount feels robust even with the added width of the tire. I do not know what the deluxe bonnet's mounting features since the tire 'well/indentation' area are not on the standard bonnet. Good luck with your ideas.

Eric Y.
