I am looking to get 16" wheels for my 88. It will be completed in a couple of months. Right now it has 15" wheels with rather small tires that are extremely agressive. I would like to put on my BFG a/t that are currently on my disco. They are the stock size. I think that is 235/70 r16 and I like the ride I get from them. I live in FL so we have alot of sand and they work great. What size wheel should I buy and were would be a good , resonable place to get them. They don't have to be genuine LR. Thanks Rico |

Ron, We run 235/75R15s on the Jeeps at work, and I think that they'd be small on a Series, FWIW... I had that size on the ol' Wagoneer I had, and always regretted not getting larger than those.... for the same reasons why I would want larger on a Series Rover.... A set of wheels for the Series would be cheaper than new BFG tires anyway. AND, it'd be good to have two sets of wheels, too. Later on, he can get street tires to go onto his 15" rims, and 7.5x16 mud tires on the 16" rims.... IMHO, FWIW.... -L |

Leslie, I think Rico was looking to have the tires like on his disco ie 235 70 R16 soooooooo 235 75 R15 are really close. If he wants something bigger ie 235 85 R16 then by all means go for 16in wheels but if he is staying with a size that is stock for an 88 then there is no good reason to go to 16in wheels. YMMV FWIW IMHO etc Ron |

The main reason I was checking this out was because the tires on the 15" rims that I have are very aggressive mud terrains and are really small compaired to my stock size on the Disco. Also I will be using the series more off road than the Disco. I have a set of street tires in storage that are off the disco and they have plenty off tred left on them. If I get 16" rims for the 88 then I can put on the BFG's for half the price that it would cost to buy new BFG's for the 88. does that make sense? Rico |

33X9.50R15, 33X10.5R15 but Tall and skinny = not good in sand. BFG Big-O Tire Kelly Springfield Safari MSR. |

Rico, That makes sense, except, the the 16" BFG A/Ts that you have aren't the greatest off-road tire. I do like Jude's suggestion of 33x9.5R15 tires on your current 15" rims, but I was under the impression that BFG had dropped that size when they went to the newer M/T-km style. But, that size in other brands might not be bad.... But, you're right, a set of 16" Series rims would be cheaper than new rubber. Then you can use the tires you have from the Disco, then, once they're worn out, you can have the choice of using your 15" or 16" rims, have one w/ street tires, the other with off-road tires. Good luck, -L |

Guys, I am almost faced with a similar question. The Series IIA that I'm in the process of buying has old, cracked tires that I won't feel safe in. I do have a set of Michelin XCX/APT 245/70/16s that I can use on it to get through phase I of the restore. These were on my Disco's castor wheels. And I realize that these are smaller than stock SIIA tires. My question is, since the current tires are tubed, can I, should I, install my Michelins with tubes? Do stock Series IIA wheels require the use of tubes? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Javier |

Javier, My advice is to pony up a few dollars and do it right. Get some 7.50x16s and some tubes. Also check to see if you have the 5.5in LWB wheels or the 5in SWB euro spec wheels. You should ideally run SIIa (what year is your truck) small stub LWB 5.5in wheels with tubes and 7.50x16 tires Ron |
