Hey guys, I will be looking at a '65 sereis 2a this weekend. I saw the ad from lrx.com. I guess I got bit by the rover bug ever since I had my disco. Here's the ad:

"10,000 miles on frame-up restoration. rebuilt engine with all new parts; pistons, oil pump, timing chain gears and tensioner, tappet assemblies, Turner 8:1 unleaded head, Pierce manifold, Weber 2 bbl, Clifford headers, spin on oil filter, water pump, generator, distributor. Crank and cam shafts reground. New wiring harness, regulator and turn indicators. Rebuilt front and rear axles and prop shafts. Fairey overdrive. Superwinch freewheel hubs. New master cylinders lines and wheel cylinders. Bulkhead restored new footwells and pilars. New gas tank. New front seats and trim. 2,500 miles on new galvinized frame, parabolics and Old Man Emu shocks."

The guy wants around $8K for it. Please advise at what else I should be looking at besides the regular "kick-the-tires" routine. Thanks!

P.S. Jeff Bieler - I really like your 2a! I think this is somewhat similar. I would appreciate any advise/insights from you. Thanks again!

If it's on a new galvanized chassis, and it's bulkhead has already been redone, and it runs well, well, it's down to basically what you see is what you get.

Chassis and bulkhead are the big deal, usually. If they're clean, if the repaired bulkhead is still in great shape, then that's the lion's share of problems. It's on new springs, a rebuilt engine with reasonable parts, sounds great.

Just look it over and if you like it, well, I think that it is a more-than-reasonable price that's being asked.

If you're that interested in it, go see it, and see if the guy will sell it to you on the spot.

Good luck!

Hey good morning Les! Thanks for the tip. I've been doing a fair amount of reading about these trucks and it looks like this thing meets most of the necessary checkpoints with flying colors. I checked it out yesterday and the engine runs smooth. It starts right away and it still pull pretty strong. There are some surface rust on the firewall in the engine bay. The electrical system is positive earth - can you give me any advise on that one? -pros/cons? (electricity is definitely not my strong suit) He said just about everything was replaced in the last 2 years except for the transfer case - which he hasn't touched yet since there are no issues whatsoever right now.( I guess the "issues" are waiting for a new owner)

The frame is a galvanized marshland (sp?) frame and he also replaced (welded on) the floor board/kick panel on both driver and passenger side. Should I take it, it will also come with a whole bunch of spare parts so it sounds like it is the right deal. The only thing left is convincing my wife and doing a little bit of fund raising. hehehe. Thanks for the advise and am sure I'll be posting more in the future.

Take it for what it's worth, since I haven't seen it, but it sounds good. A little surface rust shouldn't be a big deal to clear up, and if it runs smooth and you descibe it as pulling strong, then that's about as good as a 2.25 ever is! lol...

Positive earth is NO big deal. It has a generator instead of an alternator. The problem is, adding electrical accessories, like a radio, etc.

If you want, it is REALLY easy to convert it to negative earth... it's basically a matter of crossing two wires and restarting.... I'll dig up a website about it for ya, and post it in a bit.

Good luck!
