I will be ordering some Rocky Mountain Parabolics soon and I'm still trying to decide on 2 or 3 rear springs. I will be towing the vehicle and it will have alot of weight in it. When I reach my destination most of the stuff will be taken out.
I also will be towing it with the hard top on and putting the soft top on for trail driving.
I have never seen the two spring parabolics in action. Will I lose much articulation by going with the 3 spring? Also will it be safe to tow it with alot of weight if I go with the two spring?
Any opinions are welcome.

Thanks
Rico

I assume this is for an 88".

When you say you will be towing it with a lot of gear and a hard top, do you mean reguarly or just this once? How much weight are you talking about?

If it's usually condition is soft top and your regular camping/trail gear, I would say 2 leaf springs. The 3 leaf set up can be harsh, from what I have heard, in a 88" that's not loaded down.

Talk to Ray at RM. He knows his product and will steer you in the right direction.

Rico: I have TI Console parabolics on my 2A 88" soft top, 2 leafs in the front and 2+1 leafs in the rear. These were part of a recent suspension upgrade that included OME shocks and steering damper and poly bushes. I went for the 2+1 rears because in normal conditions (soft top around town) the third leaf is not acting with the other two: only when fully loaded down or with the hard top on will the third leaf come into action. I recall that Ray's web site also recommends the 3 leaf rear if the hard top is on.
The truck is slowly being restored/upgraded, and the hard top will go back on when I get the time to fool with it. So far, the combination feels great and there does not seem to be any decrease in articulation.

Rico,

I'm not in exactly the same situation as you, but I'll tell you what I know.

I ordered the two leaf front and rear RMP with the Explorer shocks for my 72' SWB (Rita) this past Monday. I told Ron I'm never going to have a roof rack or more than about 500lbs. including two passengers in Rita. He told me that the two leafs were the only way to go then. I've never even ridden a Rover with parabolics, so I'm not an expert by far. I have been reading about them here and roversnorth for over a year and I belive the 3 leaf will cut down on your articulation some. But, compared to stock, you're not going to be let down.

Rico,
I have the RM 3 leaf rears with a hard top. The ride is MUCH better than the original springs. I wouldn't call it "harsh" at all. A friend of mine has the TI console 2 leaf on the rear of his. He runs a soft top and his bounces around a little more than mine. As far as articulation goes we "tested" it on the same obstacles one day and there really wasn't any difference. For all practical purposes just decide how much of the time you will be running with or without a load or hard top.

I ordered the 2 leaf springs front and rear.
I called RMP and told them my situation. They said that it is OK to load the 2 leaf with alot of weight when I pull the truck.
I plan on towing the 88 to several events, the first being the MAR , and I will be putting on the hard top for the trip. the 88 will be used mostly to hold all my camping stuff during the drive. When I arrive all the camping stuff comes out and the soft top goes on.
I believe from the info I have recieved that the 2 leaf will be good.
Thanks for all the help.

Rico
