Hey guys,

Took the 109 into some Oklahoma clay and left it on for 5 days before washing the beast. Now where the clay dried are marks that look like finger prints only they will not wash or wax out. Even tried claying the spots with no success. Can't figure out what the hell to do. Any ideas??? Possibly a polish?? Just pisses me off as the paint on the rest of the Rover is in really good shape.

That's a tough one. I've never tried to clean mine up aside from hosing it down after a run. Don't know how to help you.

That's basically my method also except I had to leave for a business trip and the Rover sat for the 5 days. I'll wait and see if anyone else chimes in.

This is one Series question I really can't help on... my paint's so oxidized... actually, I've never washed my Series....

Wow, Oklahoma clay must be more aggressive than VA red Clay wich is very similar to NC,SC,TN,and GA red clay. Dont get any of that OK stuff on your skin.
Try a product called "Car Skin" on an inconspicuous place on your truck. Its old school stuff and the local parts store may have some. Again try not to get any on your skin.
Keep buffing.

I have to agree with Jude -- keep buffing. How about a rubbing compound.

Leslie - I have actually waxed Rusty twice! Why I don't know. A PO painted it a really nice deep red that looks like rust after about a day in the sun (hence the name). I have given up on really washing him now. I spray the salt off (a lot). I spray the mud off (every so often). And I spray some of the paint off (every time) since whom ever painted it didn't use a self etching primer. Hell if it keeps going the way it is I'll just start polishing the aluminum!

Thanks again guys for your suggestions. I'll just keep trying the buffing process. Leslie, my 109 isn't really a "true" 109 - it is a restored 109 body on 110 running gear including V8. I'm not overly anal about the paint, yet, it looks pretty good and as my wife is going to bury me in it at my death, want it to be around for a few more years!! Of course so would I!

That's one nice thing about the aluminum body... lol... doesn't have to have paint on it! :)

A 110 in 109" clothing would be sweet... SW or pickup? I'd like to have a 110 pickup myself....

A 1967 NADA 109 SW. If you're so inclined, it is on ECR's Series restoration page. A 110 P/U would be very cool, yet, a little too much U$ at the moment. We've been kinda looking for a 109 p/u for our land back in PA. yet haven't seen one I can't really do wothout.

Sweet! I don't wanna know how much that set you back... How long did it take? Did you supply the 109, or did they have the donor to start from? Just curious...

Yep, you found it. ECR supplied the donor 109 and it was partly finished for a person who then backed out of the project. We decided to change the concept to the 110 in 109 sheeps clothing. Took about 1.5 years to get everything sorted out right. Finished just in time for return back to the US from Japan. I sold my 95D90SW to finance most of the project, yet, now you know why my wife is goin to bury me in it! We have 2 Labs and the D90 just didn't have enough room for camping trips. I like the look of the SeriesIIa versus the Defenders so thats another reason for the 109 body. ECR did a great job and the 109 really goes well on and off road. Yes, it is not garage art so it gets dirty. And now I have to get this damn clay crap off of it!
