uhm... Spraypaint? IMO, I would stay away from it if the idea is just to buy you time. Doing it right however is to have them powder coated ($50-$75 or more per wheel) which will give you a durable, original looking finish. But the cost is about the same as buying steel wheels. I bought my genuine LR steelies for $50 each. Bought two cans of Rustoleum White and 2 cans of primer. Check out my gallery here or over at expedition exchange. Good luck! -glenn |

Glenn, I'm thinking of going with the 235/85 R16 tires. How do you like them? Do they slow the D1 down alot at HWY speeds. And are they to heavy a tire for the stock drivetrain. Thanks Rico |

Rico, That particular tire size is one of the most common upgrade from stock in the disco community. They are noticably heavier on highways that have long uphills but they are not that bad at all. If you have a good running 4.0 engine, it should compensate. My gearing is still stock as I found no serious need for 4.11's yet. Also, since I have the M/T's you can feel the tire knobs' vibrations below 5 mph, other than that, the noise is really a toss up between my roofrack, noisy lifters and the wind noise that's produced by our bricks on wheels. Good luck! -glenn BTW, shouldn't this be in the Discovery Tech section? |

Jess, If you want to paint your alloys, I'd go with spray paint. It's super cheap to do and really easy to touch up when the wheels get scuffed up on the rocks. Nathan Hindman http://www.PangaeaExpeditions.com |

I actually asked the dealer about this once, they have them spray painted - $175 ea!!! But the catch is that it is done in a booth sort of like they do airplanes, it has to be electrically charged and prepared special. However, I might try some Rustoleum! http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net |
