Saw an ad in the newspaper today for this. Provided everything is in decent shape, is $3,000 a good price? What problems should I be looking for before buying? Thanks, Norm '95 Discovery 4.6 5-speed |

This truck has a Chevy 250 ci motor but apparently everything else is original and in decent shape -- hard top, left hand drive. ---Norm |

If the frame and bulkhead are solid, and it's in good shape, that would be decent. I'm not fond of that conversion, but, it's a common one, and if it is done well, it shouldn't be too bad. Have a look at it, and see what you think..... -L |

I would add to Leslie's statement that if you are a purist, then the retrofitting of a 2.25 petrol might be costly. However, if you don't care so much for originality and prefer the benefits of the current engine (parts availability & cost, added horsepower if applicable, etc.) then I would think it's worth a look. Never mind -- I took a look at this rusted, ratted out POS this afternoon. To say that the ovner "exaggerated" the condition of this rolling wreck would be a gross understatement. The test drive ended after a "5/50" (five seconds or fifty feet) when the brakes failed and went to the floor. Owner's response was that "they take getting used to." Oh yeah, the interesting thing about putting a straight 6 Chevy motor in these vehicles is that the front differential/axel shaft bashes into oil pan when taking bumps -- this one looked like somebody had taken a sledge hammer to it. ---Norm |

Offer $10 for it, so you can get a part or two out of it..... Seriously, tho'..... definitely forget about it, unless he'll let it go REAL cheap for a parts vehicle.... IMHO, FWIW.... -L |

lol, slower than slow.... I've cut the rivets to get the trim off of the rear tub that's the replacement, but haven't gotten the same bits off of the original tub (that way I can pick 'n choose which parts to use, and which aren't worth galvanizing). I've partially gotten the paint stripped off, but have a good bit to go yet. I've been spending most of my extra time playing dad to the little one.... the wife is worn out when she gets home after spending all day in an elementary classroom, and since my job isn't as stressful, I'm the kids' jungle-gym in the evening. Most of my wrench time has recently been on Laura's Disco, the one that we replaced her Subaru with... just did the brakes tonight... it's just getting it shaken out, catching up on PO deferred maintenance. After having that wreck that totalled her new Subaru, happening in the summer while she wasn't getting a paycheck (a downside to being a teacher), funds got a bit tight.... we're getting caught up now, so, once I can get a frame and springs, I'll attack it and do the swap, hopefully over a weekend. Definitely sometime after MAR... I'll take pics, though, and intend to make a site with it all.... we'll see how it goes... Thanks for asking, though! I end up putting things off, but whenever there's interest, I get remotivated.... we'll see if I can get more done soon.... -L |
