Ok y'all, I am going to MAR this year (no "ifs" "ands" or "buts" about it :)). I have a Series 3 109" soft top with absolutely no sound proofing or heat proofing in it at all. It is fairly uncomfortable on long drives. It does 55 ok but really sucks in the hills.

Last year it took 6 hours to get from Charlotte to MAR in our disco. I am wondering if I should rent a trailer and tow the beast up there instead of tryin' to make it go 60. What does everyone else think?

On another note, I have towed it before with my GMC pickup to TRG. It did pretty good and the setup handled well on the road. I know I will need strap extensions to hold the tired down (got em') and a full trailer (all wheels off the ground).

So, should I chicken out or what!!??

Hmmmm...........

Well, it's an experience to drive it, better to get in with a group and caravan it, though. That way it's even more fun, and you've got help w/ ya if you need it.

If you're on your own, though, it'd not be a bad idea to get it there by tow.... unless you're that confident in your ability to get back underway while working in a Wal-Mart parking lot....

Something to think about....

Well, to be honest, the 109 is a strong runner (knock on wood). I've been able to work out most/all of the mechanical bugs in the thing, so I don't think getting there is a big problem. Though, it does seem like whenever a Series rover goes on a long trip like this the truck nukes its' gearbox or something terminal like that :(. If that happens then I guess I'll have to find a 24 hr Wal-mart :). Oh well, as long as I got my little block of wood I can stand on, it should be able to reach anything in the engine compartment :):):).

I can just see it now: Got the truck pulled up to a lamp post with a strap over the top of it, then connected to my come-along pullin' out the engine :). I suppose I should go into the Wal-Mart and buy me a couple of those hazard cones and set them up in the surrounding parking spots so I'll have room to work :). I'll use a shopping cart to push my Transfer case around in. God it will be my finest hour...If I can get it to start :):):).

Any other thoughts?

P.S. Leslie, I bet you won't even recognize the ole' 109! I've done a lot to it so far and it is now a really great truck! See ya there! Hope your series is gonna show up too!!

Tow.

Just make sure the tow vehicle is not broken at the rally. That always happens to us.
