Anyone got a light fixed up to project onto the winch? Got to be waterproof. Could clamp onto the brush bar light tab. Got to be strong enough to take out a fuckload of brush and dunk under water.

Why, so you can easier operate the winch in the dark? Why not just get a headlamp?

- Axel

Petzyl Mayo 5 is what I use Dean. Chicks dig it as well. Honestly, chicks at MAR say, "Paul your light gets me hot!"

Okay, time to way wake up, but check out:

Axel - Actually I still have my headlamps, funnily enough. But they shine in my face and not on the winch!

Paul - I was looking at one of those in Sports Authority (the ONLY fucking shop open on thanksgiving). Might be able to butcher one up a bit. A good LED one would be cool.

Randy - ok I know I said waterproof, but a submersible fountain light? LOL maybe splash proof would be adequate. Those are very big too.

Rob - sorry but your link doesn't work.

Are you winching at night to keep the sun exposure to your winch line at a minimum?

:-)

Mabey just a small back up lamp, a cool one from a series truck? or one of my dunkable utility lights with only the 35w lamp, not the 100w aircraft landing light? I too am looking into something small and just bright enough, I too have a headlamp, but i dont feel like wearing it for ten hours and 14 recoveries, Mabey instead of the lights we shouldn't spend all night wheeling in the dark, LOL, Or just become better drivers!!!
Peter.

Oh THAT kind of headlamp! I was wondering wtf Axel was on about lol, in England we call the headlights 'headlamps' lol. And I already have those!

Peter I was thinking something like some amber LED marker lights, screwed to the top bar of the brush. Some marine lights I've seen are waterproof and only about $7 each. Don't need to be too bright to see the winch line. I'd like a switch there also.

Pep boys now has LED running light assortment! also i was wondering where to put the switch, it would be nice if it went on whenever the interior lights were on, I could live with that instead of another switch, Well, off to pep boys i go

Hi
The Camel Trophy defenders just had a standard side light mounted on an angled piece of metal, attached to the grille, this would of course be waterproof and plenty bright enough.

Peters,

Yeah I've been looking around there, I don't really want a bigger light there, I'd rather it not even be visible much.

Oh and PeterB, I want the switch next to the light, on the brush bar somewhere.

I dont think that i can go wheeling, although i hooked up a 4 led light where it cant be seen, wired it to the side parking light, so it is on when parking lights are on, i'll see how it looks tonight to see if i need a switch, i think that it will be dim enough that i wont need another switch.
Peter.

I am crazy about the streamlight little bendable snake lights. I have used this several times to stick into the winch channel to see if I am respooling winch line evenly. For me, they create a very bright lights without harming my night vision. You can clip them on just about anything - including your clothes, glasses, etc. I've even wrapped mine around my steering wheel to get light focused inside fuses. They are available in white light or blue light. So far so good in brush and mud. They're lightweight since they use AAAA batteries. http://www.streamlight.com/images/stylus_reach_info_01.jpg

Bill - yeah I've seen some good marine grade LED lights like that for around $8 each, red or amber, I'll probably put one on the underside of the brush bar top bar, shining down on the winch line. Can't decide amber or red though! Might keep some night vision with the red, so I can se what else is going on and (for example) where the other end of my winch line is lol!

Now all I need is a waterproof switch....

Wire the led into the side light circuit of your headlights
Alternative to LED, try a d90 rear number plate light.
