I'm looking at the RTE bumper, wondering how they manage to get the perfect corners on the box section, basically two 1/4" plates welded together at 90 degs, and then somehow ground down on the outside corner to look good.

Big weld beads and lots of grinding. Experience helps, too.

Not so much a "big weld", but grinding. Im sure there metal is cut with a CNC machine. That makes a good joint by it's self. Then, I bet they use the "flap" grinding wheels. Looks like sandpaper flaps on a disc. They make a real smooth finish. I want to know how long it took Steve, or who ever does there welding, to learn how to do the perdy welds around the "A" bars, and other joints where the welds are not ground down.

After learning about all the welding techniques in my metals class, I see how nice a job Steve did on my bumper. John and him do good work.

So they are not using something like a router bit (for metal), on a milling machine or something?

FYI: It's just Steve. There is no more John (John has retired and sold the business to Steve).

Actaully, John is still with RTE. He's just not as active in the business as he use to be. He still helps steve out, "kinda sorta" is what he told me about a week and a half ago.
