Has anyone used these? General opinions?

aluminum

yello

I cant find the specs on either of them anywhere on the web. I want to know what bulb power and type they are, and whether they are regular clear white 55W halogens or something with more umph. As far as I can tell, a 1 million candlepower light is a 55W halogen, so if this light is just 2 x 55W halogens then I dunno if they are just talking BS woth the brightness rating.

TIA

Dean

Dean,

I've never used either of those models. When you do find the specs, I suggest checking the weight, how hot it gets during use, and if it has a "constant on" switch.

I used to have a Vector handheld rechargable 1 million candlepower spotlight from Bass Pro Shops. The weight of the rechargable batteries was way too heavy for me, so I ended up mailing it to a friend with stronger arms.

I replaced it with a Night Blaster Optronics 2 million candlepower 12-volt handheld spotlight that I found at West Marine for around $10 on sale. It is extremely lightweight, much stronger, and water/weather resistant. My favorite feature is the sturdy detachable 10 ft coil cord - I can plug it in my truck and reach anything I need to get to. I've found this to be very useful when I need to get a very good look under my rover at night. The spotlight even has a hook at the base for hanging it up or tying it down.

Hope that helps, Jamie

Jaime, the vector is a BIG mofo, it weighs in at 9 lb, more than double my current one. It has two lead acid batteries, and I have been very please so far with this type of battery lasting a long time and staying usable for many years. I just really want to know the build quality and bulb wattage. Might put some bigger bulbs in! :-)

SUMMARY SUMMARY SUMMARY SUMMARY SUMMARY

Well I received the aluminum light a few days ago, and the trigger was broken out of the box. Spent 2 hours fixing it (rather than send it back to Amazon), and well I gotta say it is just freaking awesome! It has 2x100W H3 halogens, and its easily brighter than my disco's headlights! I honestly couldn't be more pleased with it, its like a helicopter spotlight in your hands.

9/10 (for the trigger)

I too unfortunately purchased a vector light. the workmanship quality is very poor. the plastic separates and the battery leaks.

Vector 1 million candlelights are currently on sale at Home Depot for $4.99 which is an appropriate price for the product. Don't know about the 200 power though

Well, it doesn't cost $4.99 so some of you may already have lost interest, but this has always served me well:

Hella Hand-Held Search Lamp. 155 watt pencil beam. It does the trick.

Yes the aluminum one. Apart from the bad trigger, its very nicely machined, (I had to take it all apart to fix that). Its has a glass front cover too, surrounded by a thick rubber cap. Kinda like John's Hella, but with batteries. (I suspect its not so much $$$ too).

Poseur blue-tint bulbs too!

Hey John,

You guys must've just gotten that Hella handheld in as I was searching your site just a few days ago and I don't remember seeing it. It looks very nice!

I was trying to find a budget light setup that I could still use on-road and would fit on a stock disco's front bumper, but something like that 8502 might be a more versitile alternative.

Thanks as always for the mac-daddy product presentations!
