I recently bought my first air compressor. I researched it and bought one that I could use with light impact tools occasionally, and still have mobility for rental house repairs and carpentry. My rookie question/situation is this:

The compressor has a rating of 6SCFM at 90PSI, which is adequate for me as far as air volume. It has two gauges, one for tank pressure and the other for outlet pressure. Since my impact tools (3/8" ratchet, 1/2" impact, 1/4" angle die grinder) are all rated at 90PSI, that is where I leave the outlet pressure. I also pressure-gauge tested the PSI at the hose/tool end, and it is consistent even with the air dryer attachment. However, the compressor is factory-set to recycle at 90PSI. Thus, it "kicks on" at every use of my impact tools. FWIW, I plan to add an additional 10-20 gallon air tank as an attachment for additional air volume and storage. My actual question: Can I buy an additional inline pressure regulator, set it at 90PSI for the tool end, and set the compressor itself up to 150PSI for the tank pressure? I have several reasons for doing this, but it seems as though it would work and keep from cycling quite so much. Sorry if this is confusing.

I will say it again. Yes, a larger compressor would be great. But, I bought one (after research) that would serve both purposes adequately, leaning a little more towards the carpentry side. Simply put, I bought what is best for me. However, I would like to improve things if I can with what I have.

Thanks in advance.
