On previous threads regarding water in vehicles and the danger of rust that can follow, I have posted that I put Pelican Desiccants on top of my carpet and under all of my rubber mats in an attempt to avoid future probelms. As I said, I didn't know if they would work or not.

My carpets got soaked again last week in monsoon type rains when my drivers window wouldn't go up. As always, I dried out the mats and the interior carpet. I just went out to check the Desiccants and they are working!! They turn color when they need to be reactivated. The color is visible thru the tiny window within the aluminum case. You put them in the oven for 3 hours at 300 degrees to reactivate the crystals. Mine are going into the oven for reactivation, then going back under the mats.

Just thought I'd let you know this good news since lots of us battle with wet trucks after water crossings :-) :-)

They are normally used in Pelican cases to protect equipment (www.expeditionexchange.com/pelican/). They're very inexpensive and last forever. They're called Peli Desiccant Selica Gel packs and are quoted as being "the choice of Government and Industry". I can attest to the fact that they hold up to abuse just like the cases they are made for.

They absorb dampness, prevent condensation, and prevent damage before it starts. Sort of like "damp rid" for confined spaces, but works very fast and they're totally out of sight.
