Just an FYI for you FL owners in the field...

While my DSII was at the Santa Fe dealership, the tech was working on a Freelander in the very next bay. The Freelander had been brought in the day before exhibiting all sorts of codes. The tech comes over to the manager (Dave) who is looking at the codes on my truck and says "wires are chewed; definitely rats -- sorry, not a warranty issue." Dave says to me "Want to see something interesting?" and takes me over to the FL with its hood up and hands me a flashlight and says look around the engine.

Holy Moley! There are chunks and pieces of wood in little piles all over the engine compartment -- big-ass droppings everywhere. Dave says "look into the engine, there, past those" (gesturing at the three curved big pipes at the front of the engine.) There inside was the largest pack rat nest I have even seen. (largest cause it was the only one I have ever seen). Neatly bedded with all sorts of strings, twigs, pieces of wire, insulation, leaves and whatnot -- it looked to be the size and thickness of a good pie.

The tech thought the nest was a rat's nest, but Dave said no, the piles of wood and debris stacked throughout the engine bay was packrat behavior. The nest was old too -- clearly the rat had been there a while.

Anywho, it is clear what my point is: You FL owners might want to take a regular look at that space -- it was made for rodents! These particular owners kept the Freelander in the same spot in a field by their house.

That clearly was going to be one expensive repair job.

Damn Blue...

Never once even crossed my mind!

Now, do you prefer the slow roasted cooking style via a long and hard off-road trail? Or the sear and grill via an interstate crossing?
