I heard rather then build separate seat for Freelander with or with out heated seats they build thme all with the heater element allready in there. And if you purchase the heated seat they install the switch. Does anybody know if this is true or not??

the seat in each level of Freelander is different in build and if the seat is not supposed to have a heater in it, they do not install it. Under the blank where the switch usually is there are connections as well as under the seats there are connections but this is only prewiring for production line techniques.

But would all the seats in an SE already have the heating element there. It doesn't seem to make much sense to build one with one with out. DO you know what I mean. That would mean for each Black leather seat there is another Black Leather seat with the heater element. I know they used to do it in the Discovery.

No they dont. Only if the FL was ordered with the heated seats will the elements be there. Already looked in my SE. (my 96 Disco did not have the elemets either)

Just look uder the seat and you will see the wires come up from the carpet but there is nothing from the seat itself.

On a similar note: are the heating elements in the FL seats noticeable (seats more rigid, less comfortable)?

When mine was in service about 2 weeks ago the loaner I got from the dealer had the heated seats. I did not notice at first until I saw the installed switches and tried them out. No change in the seats as far as I was concerned.
