O.K, someone must have this fault! It's been in to be fixed once, but keeps coming back, rain or shine. Anyone know what causes it? Lights up 'F4' on shift selector display on dash (PRND4321) and the HDC flashes yellow warning on lower left of idiot light cluster. Anyone? |

You have a bad shifter on the car. Time to go to the dealer and have them replace it. This has been a common problem with the 02's. Mine failed right after I got it. |

Same here. On my old 02 Freelander, it was a bad shifter that caused the F4 error along with the HDC and TC failure lights as well. |

Happened on my '03 -- occurred when selector was between D & 4, shifted ok, so I didn't notice that the selector was not properly engaged. Cured with a shutdown & startup, and paying better attention. |

So, LRFH, here in Michigan, fitted a new shifter mechanism. It appears that it is the limit sensors that were at fault, and that this may have caused an immobilization fault, which in turn caused a starting fault! Dealer did a great job tho'. |
