i was driving along on the hyway when the hill decent light came on the yellow one with theb exclamation point came on!at 80 mph no need to tell you i pulled over right away,i turned the beast off and re-started it and had no more transmission in any gear.here i was stuck in a major snow storm with a handicap person my wife and two dogs with no transmission and rigs zooming by at 60 mph.Not a good feeling with a truck with only 3,000 miles does any body know what the hell this is all about i have the tow it in to the dealer on monday but my wife does not want the truck anymore because of this!It drives really nice but this is already our third trip to the dealer on a 3,000 mile truck all electrical stuff.

THat is correct , I have always said that the ETC/HDC , ICBM blah blah is too tied into majior parts of the system. They are also the most likely to fail (I dont give a shit what anyone has to say to the contrary) , when they do fail on the D2 its just never going to be good...

"at 80 mph" + "in a major snow storm" sounds scary to me. I'm truly sorry to hear of your misfortune though, I would be pissed beyond belief. Good luck, perhaps you could get a buyback under lemon laws?

tks Robert i might of been exagerating a bit at 80 mph but will 70 do! anyhow does anybody know of such a law? or i just got to deal with this and hope for the best.Somebody must of had the same problem.I looked in a diagram of the transmission and theres 9 selenoids in theres sending messages to one and other no wonder its so complicated.

Being able to do 80mph (OMG) in a snow storm says more than a little something about the car...

The 24/7 LR roadside assistance is a great plan, if you had called them they would have had you taken care of ASAP. If you were away from home on travel, they would have paid for your reasonable expenses and the odds are 90% or better that you would have gotten a loaner when they towed it to a dealer.

I am sorry you had a problem, but these things happen. I've got 22,000+ on mine and no serious problems (knock on wood). Roadside Assistance bailed me out when I foolishly ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere. I think the measure of the car isn't one incident, but rather how the company responds to you over time.

You will find the details of the lemon law for your state in the owners manuel.

Patrick is in Canada, so lemon laws and roadside assistance (if they exists) may work differntly. I also suspect that he meant to type 80 km/h, perhaps...? :-)

That being said, my wife's 02 Freelander has been trouble free so far, except for a couple of minor issues that was taken care of right away under warranty. (A leaky seal, and a swivel boot being incorrectly installed from the factory, my dealer replaced the boot and entire axel/swivel assembly, just to be on the safe side).
