David-

I am curious if you used the strut mounts from DAP or if you had someother means of lifting the Freelander?

I had to work today, so the install on the DAP kit is going in tomorrow...I've spoken with one other lad that is installing with me. Said he had some problems with the rear lift. Did you run into anything strange or more difficult than expected?

oh yeah....any plans on getting some more rubber under there? If so, what have you been looking at?

Brian, on the rear you have to cut a slot in the brake hose retainer that is welded to the strut assembly so you can remove the line from the strut. On the left rear the axle does interfere with the exhaust at full droop. In the front as a result of lowering the strut 2" you pivot the spindle on the a-arm which changes the camber (un adjustable. After I drove it a little the wheels didn't look too off camber but I know they are, this will expedite wear on the outside of the tire. Take a look at the tire to strut clearence. Not much space for too much more tire, but I am on the hunt to have it re-shod before the SAE in Menlo.
up up and away

Robert, let me know when you want to come up, I will be glad to hang around late. I am usually there anyway.

Cool David!! How is the flex now? I suspect it will be better. Make a gallery or something of that sort. I'd like to see more!

How is the 130 comming? Saw it in the backround. Looks real good.

Hope to see more "well prepared" Freelanders in the future :):):)

Finished the install of the kit today. First thing we noticed was the camber. Now, you say it is unfixable? There is nothing that can be done? At firt drive it seemed to go away, but it appears to be back again, passenger side worse than driver. I am also hearing and feeling some friction going on in the front driver side wheel. It isn't lound, not grinding, just something I am noticing...Any thoughts on that?

We actually had to do some more cutting then just the rear to get the break line out. I will email the pictures we took and hopefully they will get posted soon.

There is no camber adjustment at the strut ????? The top bolt should be sloted to adjust camber.. Unless they bumped their heads...

Nope, no camber adjustment. (that I am aware of) Back in the old days of racing we would either give the strut a bend or slot the holes at the top and mover the tops in for neg camber. That was before sloted struts and/or plates. I may wind up doing this befor it's over. Just depends on how positive the camber is.

Brian, is the backing plate rubbing the brake disc by chance, it is easy to bend it in to touch.

Haven't had a chance to check that yet, David, but here are some other observations since the lift:

1. It is deffinetly driving more like a truck. A lot rougher, we've notice potholes, bumps, etc a lot more then before...

2. The camber issue seems to be coming and going. It appears to be OK now, but only time will tell what happens there...

3. There is A LOT more tire squeak (caused by camber issue?) or at least what we are thinking is tire squeak, especially on right hand turns...

4. Pick up has been lost again (caused by disconnection the battery and the computer having to relearn???)

I love the look, just a little worried about the way it handles and drives now....Does it need time to settle and adjust? Should I take it in a tad early for the 12,000mile service (at 11120 miles now) and see what the dealer says? Any suggestions gladly excepted!

Brian, I agree with # 1 and 3 (yes because of the camber). I didn't disconnect the battery, I just moved the panel out of the way. With the camber see if it settles down. I haven't had any problem of re-occuring positive camber. You can mention it to the dealer, but I suspect them to be of little help. Looks like a 215/75/16 will fit now with out interfereing with the strut. Check out the BFG AT KO on http://www.tirerack.com

The Camber is going to change depending on how you parked it. If you backed into a space its probably gonna look ugly. Pulling in straight wont look as bad.... It gets freaked out in reverse....
