the RR Classic we bought came with tires (Toyo) that are good for mild offroading and summer use, but for winter they pretty much won't do any good at all. I'm looking for a set that can handle the snow and mud a little bit better. Any advices ?

This is one of the best for winter driving and is popular here in Norway.

Martin,
go to your nearest Les Schwab tire outlet and buy a set of Wild Country TXR's (They're on sale right now) Have them siped and studded. Then you can go anywhere...
Cheers,
Paul.

I have the interco trxus's. They behave really well on the road and do quite well in the mud. I havn't driven them in the snow yet but from what i have heard they do good. Here's a review http://www.gis.net/~zacharer/jeep/reviews/trxusreview.html

I'm using Nokian Hakka 1 year around. Do great in the snow, decent in the wet, not to loud in the dry, but the grooving is a bit tight for gumbo type mud. Since we don't have much clay mud here and its mostly a more sandy mud, they work great in that as well.

I went for the Wild Country TXRs, got them siped and have used them now over 2 months. I must say that I'm very pleased with the grip they give me in the snow. Used them at the PCRC snow run in mid december and we went trough 2 feet of snow. They don't give you much grip on ice (for that I should have gone with studded tires). They are a little bit more nosier then the ones I have for the summer (the care came with Toyo ATs) and I had to give up a some comfort. Last weekend we used them extensively in the Cascade mountains without a glitch ...

Martin,
I use the same tire on my '96 D1, but with the studs. The road noise isn't that bad at all- yet the added traction is amazing. The studs wear well too- I'm impressed.
Cheers,
Paul.

I got some Kumho Venture ATs. They made a world of difference in the snow....truck had some well used Pirelli Scorpions. Tire Rack had the P225/75-16 that I bought for $54 per tire. I bought from a local guy, mounted and balanced for $80 a tire. My truck is stock.
