I had the interior of my 94 LWB cleaned the other day and now my interior dome lights stay on for about 5-7 minutes after the truck has been started. I've gone around checking the buttons inside each door including the one on the upper tailgate and everything seems to be in working order. Yes, I have also check the button on my dash…(preemptive strike).

Any suggestions?

You need to get the electrical trouble shooting manual for your truck.

I can tell you this:

There are 6 switches that ground the circuit which turns on the light bulbs. If you suspect a switch, just remove them one at a time to test.

There is some sort of "logic box" that delays the switching off of the lights depending on witch switch is grounding the lights, and/or if the ignition is on, etc. This is where the trouble shooting manual is needed.

So does it eventually go off? I had replaced one of mine with a brighter light and found that the frame of the light cannot be touching metal i.e. grounded, or the light will stay on constantly. Once I fixed this the light works perfectly with the original light up front.

Grubbs,
It does go off eventually. I didn't mess w/ it today w/ the hopes that it would go away and I'll probably keep hoping for a few more days...

I have a 94 LWB and this happened to me last year. Eventually the light would never go out and I had to keep pulling the fuse so it wouldn't drain my battery. Eventually I tracked it to the relay that controls the delay. It is located behind the dash on the drivers side between the steering wheel and the front door. Unfortunately my LWB is in the shop dead from some other problem that keeps cooking my ignition module or I'd get the receipt out and tell you the part number.

Booth,
Thanks for the tip. I just pulled in from out of town and low and behold, it's still broken. I've been putting off pulling the dash appart to fix an alarm issue but now that I have 2 issues in there...
Wish me luck.
Cheers.

Paul,
Were you able to figure out this problem? Was it the relay?

Not yet only because I'm a slack job and have yet to tear the dash appart. It's funny what you can get used to driving a rover...
Cruising down the highway w/ two bright dome lights on doesn't seem to bother me as much as it did when the problem started...

Hi Paul,

You can pull the fuse for a while (it's in the fuse box next to the radio). If I remember, it only seemed to effect the dome lights and the clock. Have fun when you get behind the dash.

I have an opposite problem, interior dome lights flicker each door opening. Then stay off. The manual switch works, on or off, but a door it flickers. I had this flicker before, but I can't remember how I fixed it. Ground?

You want weird? All this week when I shut my doors on my RRC at night my engine compartment light would come on! My interior lights would go off as I walked away but I would see a little glow under the truck from the hood light. I had to go back and open the hood and shut it to get the light to go off. Too cold to screw with it now, so I removed it. Any suggestions on this one would be appreciated.

My 95 classic was in for some repair work. They said that the interior lights wouldn't shut off. They said that they flipped an override switch to shut them off. I can't find it. Ive looked in the owners manual. Could anyone tell me where it is so I can track it down nad try to restore my interior lights. I can still turn them on with the dash switch. But the courtesy light feature no longer works.

I've just taken all the lights out but the ones in my rear view mirror and resorted to keeping a mini mag in the center box.
Gotta love the Classic!

Dammit Paul, mine just started doing the same thing. I pulled the fuse for my commute home tonight. Put the fuse back and it's fine for now. I'll check it out next weekend.

On my 95, it ended up being the liftgate courtesy light switch. ~$3 from LR. If I move the little nub up and down, it would eventually turn off the dome light.

Well, I finally fixed this today - I think. I reseated the 'courtesy lamp timer' module (under the dash by the steering column) and it looks like it's back to normal.

Hopefully, no more pulling the fuse. It did however cause me to memorize my radio code - it's on the same fuse as the interior lights :-)

Now it's time for the AC hoses...
