Hello new to the forum... just bought a 1995 LWB everything seems to be running correctly except some weird rubbing noises coming from the rear end.

It comes on sometimes going up to speed and does it all the time taking the foot off the accelerator. It sounds like a wind up toy winding down. or some sort of rubbing... so i pulled the plug on the rear diff and the oil in there is very shiny with fine bits of metal... ouch!! Does anyone know what this is or had this problem before? are my gears just messed up? bearings?

the truck has 105,000 miles on it

any advice before i get a shop to tear it apart to look

-cc

Could just be bearings or another common problem is the material used in the diff carrier - you will find alot of Rovers with the spider gear(s) recessed into the diff carrier.

Pull the third member yourself to save a few bucks - then any competant driveline shop can take a look.
