Will I ruin the transmission if I drive the truck in sport mode all the time. I like the way the transmission shifts and the added boost. I just don't want to mess anything up!!!!!! |

All the sport mode those is change the shift points. It holds the transmission in gear a little longer before upshifts. So no it will not ruin your transmission, but it will ruin your wallet with poorer mpg. The ZF transmission is a tuff muther so I wouldn't worry about it if you keep it in sport mode all the time. The only annoying thing is that you have to depress the sport mode button everytime you restart. |

Alan, that's only true with earlier models. The newer ones ('01, '02) default to what you had it in last. |

I seem to remember that 'sport' mode results in quicker / sharper shifts, which actually result in less transmission wear because the time the transmission is actually slipping is reduced. I could be completely wrong, maybe somebody told me that just because they liked using sport mode! |

Use of either sport or noraml mode all the time should have no effect on gearbox life. On newer trucks the transmission is actually configuarble via the test systems and downloading but I have yet to see it done. A dramatic change could certainly affect life span but the switch won't hurt anything. |
