I know the story, but I was reading a rover mag and they were discussing it. I love to offroad and currently have a RRC that is set up primarily for offroad. I would love to run the Rubicon, but no way am I driving 7000 miles round trip in my classic. I was contemplating a D2 or the P38. I love the 38, I hate the lack of aftermarket goodies but can deal. I know some things are different like the diffs on the opposite side and etc, but can they really have that many electrical problems. My RRC has been an electrical nightmare, my 97 disco has been a blessing (knock on wood). I know the EAS and the mix motors, but what else, and can they be easily fixed by home mechanics. I know get as new as possible and definitely 99 and newer. What else?

I sure as $#it hope not, since I just bought one ('99 Callaway HSE). There's not a ton of info out there but if you dig there is good info over at http://www.rangie.com and also a P38-specific site that's very useful http://www.cunningham.me.uk/rangie/buying.php

It seems that P38's fall into two catagories, one that is trouble free and one with lots of problems, can be said about other LR's too. You can do alot of things yourself, but if you get a fault you have to bring it in to a shop to read the codes and clear faults. My RRC and P38 have been relatively trouble free and I take both off-road quite often. Make sure you get one with all the services and maintanence done, don't buy one that has no service records, you will pay dearly. Most that have been maintained will be trouble free with most of the bugs worked out duing the warranty period. Do your homework and check out the P38 thoroughly before purchase. There seems to be alot of interest in the P38 lately here on dweb, read through some of the previous threads for more info, check here too if you haven't already:

Aaron, I meant to include the link to P38 fixes and remedies at Rangerovers.net (mentioned by Alan) http://www.rangerovers.net/newrremedies.htm

Aaron - I hope you are keeping the RRC. It is a nice looking classic, especially with the modifications.

I am almost back on the road. Just did a lot of work on the distributor and finishing up with new heavy duty shocks. Also just ordered the alloy steering components from Rovertym.

Planning on it. Broke off a fan blade on Gordon tonight. Got a nice chunk of fiberglass missing on the hood. All the more reason to black out the center now. It is also cutting out periodically, not sure what's up with that, as plugs, wires, cap and rotor and everything are new.

Sorry to hear about all the problems. I have had two 1992 RRC's and had many problems with them. So far (knock on wood), the 1989 seems to be fairly reliable.

I just read about the issue with fan blades breaking (rangerovers.net) and I believe that I am going to look at the metal Imperial Automotive Products Fan (220618)just as a precaution.

I doubt you will have too much trouble selling if you decide to. I put mine '92's at Wrightsville and both sold to fathers buying for their little girls who go to Hogard (one didn't even have a license yet).

I don't know too many 16 year old girls that would want to drive this. Now boys would probably be all over it. I had a couple of punks in a jeep flip me off yesterday. I guess they didn't like my stickers on the back. Did you park it at Babies hospital?

Yes - parked it at the Babies hospital. However they are getting a little stricter about parking there. I do have a friend selling his Toyota FJ62 there. He says that he has gotten several calls, however he is not willing to negotiate. And asking around $11K with over 220K miles, only the dye-hard Land Cruiser fans will be interested. (Nice truck though - in very good shape.)

You are also right about the interest in your truck. The 2 that I sold were pretty much stock.
