My key is stuck in 95 LWB and will not allow to put in "lock" position so the key can be removed. It still starts the vehicle normally. Just looking for a trick to get the key out since the replacement part with new key is $400+. The dealer said just to replace it, but that's always their solution. Thanks in advance.

Are you pushing in? Sometimes you have to push it in to remove it. Just a thought.

I have this problem with my Disco not the Rangie.

Good luck

Yeah, it seems to push in normally, but then it does not turn at all into the lock position. I think I'm gona spray gunk in it tonight and see if I can't wiggle it out with a little force, and then just buy a new one if that fails. $406 at Rover's North. Thanks for the comment.

Back in January 2000, I posted the following on the Southern California Land Rover website (www.sclr.org);

I have a 1995 Range Rover, that I experienced a combined problem with the Ignition Switch and the Electronic Air Suspension. When turning off the Ignition, I was unable to turn the key to the last position and withdraw the key. Also, I was not able to lower the Electronic Air Suspension to the Access position. Otherwise, the Electronic Air Suspension does work in the other modes. Please note, that I was able one time to get the key out, and only then would the Electronic Air Suspension lower to the Access position. I was on travel in Scottsdale Arizona when this occurred, and the local Land Rover dealer disconnected the solenoid on the steering column lock so that I could withdraw the key. The technician said that the microswitch at the bottom of the shift lever rod is either out of adjustment or broken. Using my copy of the Land Rover Factory Manual, I removed the console cover and opened the plug (6 wires) that go to the 2 microswitches and the solenoid inside the shift lever linkage. I tested both microswitches with a VOM meter, and they are in adjustment. I connected the plug and checked the operation of the solenoid, and it worked properly. Is there a Relay that is actuated by the switch that is malfunctioning and causing my problem? If there is a Relay, what is the part number, color and location (center console, dash under seat)? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jim Lupinetti

I called over to Symes Land Rover in Pasadena, California I talked with Chrissy, a Service Manager and about the problem. She transferred me to one of their technicians named Eddie about the problem. He told me there were two (2) yellow relays and three (3) green relays behind the glove box. He said to remove and exchange the yellow relays first, and if that didn't work to try the green relays second. The green relay on the left side was found to be malfunctioning. As I individually installed the other two (2) green relays in the left position, the key could be withdrawn from the Ignition Switch and the Electronic Air Suspension could be lowered to the Access position. Also when the malfunctioning relay was plugged into one of the other two (2) positions, the audible warning tone for lights on/key left in ignition stayed on continuously. I am headed to Symes to get a new relay today.

Thank you for your help.
Jim Lupinetti

P.S. I hope this information helps anyone else who experiences this problem. It took little time to check the relays and is an easy job, compared to the time and complexity to taking the console apart to check the switch gear.
