I'm thinking about putting a roof tent on my 91 classic. Looking for advice (pros and cons) as well as some pictures. I have checked out the tents on the Hannibal web site , but they do not have any pictures of Range Rovers.

By far the hard-top magnolia tents are the best for 4 season work.

The hard shell on the Magnolina is kind of a nice idea, but I think they're extremely small compared to other makes of tent. Very clausterphobic.

Based on personal experience, I think the best tent out there is the Eezi Awn AluTop, followed by their traditional roof top tent. Opens like a traditional roof top tent but with a aluminum and stainless cover.

Thanks,

Which is the best configuration, ladder to the rear or ladder to the front? What rack works the best, or does the rack come with the roof tent? Do they really leak? How are they in the wind?

It seems that many prefer running the tent off to the frotn of the truck because it does kind of have the "cool factor" look to it. But personally, I like running the tent off the back of the truck, since it's a bit more practical. The tent then doubles as an awning, or you can attach cool stuff like a shower skirt.

As far as racks go, you can pretty much mount a tent to any rack with a large enough horizontal surface. The only catch is that you can't have a railing in the direction that the tent folds out. I've seen tents mounted on Hannibal racks, Safety Devices racks, Thule load bars, Wilderness racks, etc...

The tents are pretty weather proof. I was recently reading about a group who was down in Patagonia, which is known for it's strong winds. Apparently, Patagonia is literally translated in the native tongue as "the broom of god" because the winds come down out of the Andes with such strength that it is as if the broom of god is sweeping the area. Any way they camped in their Eezi Awn with no problems at all, except for the obvious noise associated with camping in winds like that.

As far as leaking is concerned, to be honest I have had a couple of customers with Hanninbal tents that have been leaking at thin spots in the material. This is fixed with a wax kit that comes with the tent. However, it's also a reason why there is an additional roof top tent option coming in the very near future (ie next 3-4 weeks).

Thanks,

Thanks for the info. The Eezi Awn looks pretty good to me. I guess my next question is where in the US can I buy a Eezi Awn tent? The only place that I have been able to find on the internet is in Australia.

OR...
If you are even poorer (in my case) and HATE the weight of the rack...take out the rear bench, and run some ropes through the windows around the roof for a 2-person hammock :-)...will post pics soon.

E-mail me off line and I can tell you how to get ahold of an Eezi Awn tent.

Thanks,

I've been using one of these for years, just fold down the second seat in the classic and slide the tent style boot over the lift and drop gate. Simple and only takes about 5 minutes to set up.
