My BW T-Box is now worn out with 215K miles on it. I want to know what is necessary to replace it with a DII T-box with Diff Lock(is it called an LT230?). Can I use a DII front driveshaft without any modifications? Do I need DII T-Box mounts to the frame? What shifter do I use? How do I know for sure it's in Diff Lock? What else do I need to know? Has anyone do this mod? Any and all info helpful? |

I had the conversion done in the summer on my '93 LWB. You can use a DII front shaft if the t-case has a DII flange on the front end. The diff end is the same. If you don't end up getting a DII LT230 (I got an LT230 from a DI) then you can have a DII flange installed or use an adapter - I went with a DII flange. For the shifter I used a DI manual linkage which works great and the diff lock sensor was wired to the transmission/t-case temp warning light. This is quite a common thing to do in this conversion. Other than that you need one new mount on the pass. side of the LT - it's the standard engine/t-case mount unlike the BW. If you do use a DII front shaft, make sure to have it re-built with grease-able u-joints - it will fail eventually and take out your transmission if not regularly serviced. It's a great upgrade and feels much more sure footed than the BW. Hope that helps. SC |

Steve, had you had any problems with your used LT230? How many miles did yours have? I am debating a rebuilt or used one. |
