FUEL GUARGE WILL DROP TO EMPTY AND THE SYSTEM WILL READ "FUEL GUAGE FAULT". AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS, IT'S FINE. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THIS COULD BE? IN ADDITION TO THAT, SOMETIMES WHEN I TRY TO START THE CAR, WHEN I TRUN THE KEY THERE IS A DELAY BEFORE IT TURNS OVER. ONCE IT TURNS OVER, THE TRUCK CUTS OFF. AFTER I TRY AGAIN, ZOOM, IT STARTS RIGHT UP. IS THERE ANY CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO. MY GUESS ON THE LADDER WAS THE STARTER, BUT WITH THESE P38'S, WHO KNOWS!!!!!! |

Hi, Replace your fuel pump with the sending unit. Mine did the same along with the cranking part. Replaced pump/sending unit assy and fixed it.

Thanks alot jennifer. that's exactly what going on. I hear you have to drop the fuel tank to get to the pump. Not a big deal from what i hear. It's just much easier if you have a lift. |

When the gauge acts up the problem could be in the instrument cluster or the sender. If your looking for a back yard answer the pump is a good place to start. It's never a waste to change a fuel pump on an older vehicle - you never know when they will fail. Look carefully at the wiring as it is prove to corrode in areas where roads are salted in winter. |
