Before I take this in to have my mechanic look at it I thought maybe you guys could diagnose it. 1999 LR 4.6 HSE. Both heated seats do not work. Not the seats not the seat backs. The indicator lights do go on and will stay on for a while. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. |

If the light is on and the fuses are good it's 9 of 10 odds that the heater elements in the seats have broken. You have to remove the seat, separate the cushions, remove the leather, and change the heater pad. Very common fault. |

Thank you very much. Is it one element for each seat? |

Two per seat. One upper "squab", one lower "cushion". |

Is it possible that all 4 elements have broken at the same time? Also, I have not checked the fuses because in the manual it says the fuses that control the seat also control other items and those items work. |

It is not at all unusual to find both the seat heaters failed on a 4-5 year old Rover. In each seat the lower cushion and backrest elements are hooked in series with a temperature cutout, so if any of those items fails the heated seat quits working. You need to remove the seat and manually test to identify the failed element |

On my new 95 LWB, the driver's side heated seat doesn't work. I am planning on dismantling everything to get at the elements, but how do I check if the element is bad? For instance, if just the squab element is faulty, and the back portion is fine, how would I know this? Would I be able to just look at it and see a broken wire somewhere? |

It's a resistance heater, right? So you should be able to just ohm it out, checking for an open circuit. |

Which fuses control the seat heaters on a P38A?
