I need a BW T-Box chain for '91 RRC. Where is the cheapest place to find one? I prefer a new one.

Cheapest place is probably Ashcrofts in the UK. You should change the gaskets and a few bearings while you're in there.

National drivetrain used to have the chains for like $130 or so. I don't know if they still carry it though.

Thanks for the tip A. Ali! I called National Drivetrain and they had one in their Cali. warehouse. They had a chain, rebuild seal set, a bearing set and a main shaft for the BW T-Box. All I had to do was get the model # off of the T-Box. The chain with shipping cost me $157.00! I work at a Land Rover dealer and our dealer cost on that chain is $555.00. Thanks again for the tip! But thats the greatness of D-Web!

I put the T-Box chain in that I bought from National Drivetrain and it was an exact match with a perfect fit! How cool is that! Now almost all of my drivetrain slack is gone. I don't have to listen to the clunking when shifting out of park into reverse or drive. And I dont have to listen to the annoying clunk as my trans downshifts. Very Cool!!!!

Hmmm...if I stick my finger in the t-box and push the chain, I have a bit more than 1" of slack. Too much? About right?
How much of a PITA is it to change out the chain, if it comes to that?

The transfer box has to be removed from the RR. The t-box has to be seperated in half. Then remove the extension housing on the side of the case the chain is in. Pull both gears up with the chain. Install in reverse order. Of course this is the abreviated version. I work at Land Rover dealer and was a tech there so it was easier for me doing it in a shop with the necessary tools and experience. I did it on a Saturday. It takes a day at moderate pace. I knew it was needed on my RR when I heard all the clunking when my trans shifted.

Ed, how heavy is the transfer case? Can you man-handle it or is a jack a necessity?

You need a jack. It is heavy. Also, raising it and sliding it onto the back of the trans takes a little time and effort. Much too long to hold it up and align it into position.

For the weekend warriors, you can use a floor jack to do this job but I prefer using a transmission jack. You can rent it for a decent price and it's much safer than man handling that bad boy!

Good luck and be safe. Don't forget to undo all connections on top of the case that are hard to see!
