I am getting ready to put Firestone Destination M/T's on my RRC and I am thinking about using Equal Tire Balancer instead of balancing the tires. It seems kind of wierd but maybe it works. Does anyone have any experience with these products? Click on the links to check them out! http://www.expeditionexchange.com/equal/FAQ.htm http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Destination +M%2FT&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=475R6DESTMTOWL&fromCompare1=yes |

Yes, I've used Equal on three sets of tires on my RRC. It works. I have heard of it not working on really sucky tires... SC |

I agree with Steve and have used it also. The only negative that I have heard is to be careful not to introduce moisture into the tire as that will cause the Equal to cake up and then make your tire unbalanced. Have not had that happen to me, but does make sense. Darren |

I've not tried Equal, but I've watched a lot of conversations on the web and listservs. Seems like it is one those products that people either swear by or swear at. I've never had a balance problem with any of my tires, so haven't felt motivated to try anything other than the normal lead weights. If I had tires that wouldn't balance any other way (and couldn't return them), I might well give Equal a try. |

ed, done both, equal and weights (on good tires too) and i found that the equal was fine at lower speeds but would tend to lose its balance at higher speeds (60-70). i bought a case of the stuff from a tractor supply and i couldn't give the stuff away. in the end, all my buddies switched back over to weights and i kept the equal. for whats it's worth when i replace my tires ,i too will go back to the weights. marc |

I've had it in a set of Re-tread MTs and I absolutely love it from 0-75mph. I don't drive faster than that so it works great for me. |

can you use equal along with lead weights? equal seems to help prevent cupping and seems to have evened out some 245/75R16 BFG MTKOs I have that were pretty cupped, but I,m with Pugs, seems to start shimming around 55-60mph. On the last set of 235/85R16 I went with taped lead weights inside then sealed them with duct tape to try and prevent as much moisture penetration as possible. |

I have used "Equal" extensively while driving lorrys (18 wheelers), it works wonderful on those big tires. However, I have been informed by several tire shops that while installed on smaller vehicles it does not perform as well as it does in lorrys, until you reach cruising speed meaning at least 45 mph. which gives uneven wear and all kinds of vibration at lower speeds. in short it is of no service at low speeds. |

i'd balance the wheels then install the equal. equal alone will not balance your wheel. it works but it ain't no miracle powder. ask john lee for more details... he knows the truth. |

Darren Ohara made the comment about moisture clumping the Equal. The website http://www.expeditionexchange.com/equal/FAQ.htm says it isn't a problem as the moisture will dry out and the stuff will be OK. Me? Never heard of Equal before. Ron

You might want to do a search on this site about the Firestone Destination MT before you buy them, there have been some negative reviews about them: http://www.discoweb.org/cgi-bin/discus/search.cgi ../17/39680.html> ../17/35394.html>

Recently there has also been a lot of talk on D90 mostly negative towards Equal. It was mentioned about airing down problems and that it does not work as well at low speeds. Even though I have used it and personally did not have any problems with it, I was not overly impressed and went back to regular weights. |

I finally put tires on my RRC. I heeded everyone's warning and finally made a decision. I put LT 245/75R16 BFG Mud Terrains on and ride matched balanced the tires. That balancing is supposed to be a lot better. I've driven tricked out Discovery's at Trek '00 and '03 and those vehicles were shod with BFG Mud Terrains. I know they can do the job. They have proven to be a tried and true tire over the years. I went with what I would have the least problem with. The tires are NOT noisy and perform flawlessely off-road and they look badass. What else is there? ED |
