Hello,

Is ther a place (web site)where I can find the history on a RR (not carfax) if I have the vin available? There is a '95 RR LWB that has 154k miles on it i'm considering buying.

I would like to try to find as much as possible on the history of the vehicle b4 I agree to buy. The dealer said it was serviced only at the LR dealer, but has no papers to back his word up.

It's nice/clean/straight looking in/out but i'm just not sure about the mech of it as this will be my first RR and only know what to look for from the research and reading I have done from different site (DiscoWeb.org is #1).

Thanks for any assistance.

Bret,

I'm pretty sure only LR service managers or techs will have access to the info. Best bet would be to go to your local LR dealer and chat with them, bring the VIN number with you and ask them if they could run the history of the RR for you. Tell/imply that you are a potential customer and they will probably run it for you and print it out.

Alan,

I did that I was not given much info. The service advisor I spoke with said the RR had never been to his dealer.

Are all LR dealer computer tied in toughter with available data from other dealers? Or are they independent?

Thx,

Go to another dealer, the history is avaliable to any LR dealer. Sounds like they were just too darn lazy to look it up, takes like a minute. My local dealer checked my 92 RRC's history for me and printed the whole history out, it will be a little cryptic but you can easily tell what's been done. I didn't even buy my 92 RR there, it all depends on who you talk to, just be courteous.

Just as an example, when I moved to Halifax, NS from Ohio with my Disco the local dealer there was able to access all repair records entered by the dealer in Columbus, OH. So the system is available to all dealers in N.A.

Your dealer is giving you a line.

Hi,

this is BS. Any land rover dealer will know the service history of any vehicle. As long as the service history is with LRNA.

Do not be blown away by stupid BS. If the previous owner changed the spark plugs then the spark plug change will not be in the LR history. If they did it then it will. They are very good about tracking this stuff. There is a privacy issue regarding the release of information. My LR dealer could confirm (in writing) all major and minor service points along with any recall/recommended upgrades etc.. but not when or by whom. Only that it was carried out by a LR dealer.

Let me give you a really trivial example. The radio code. I have seen many posts regarding how to get the radio code. In fact any dealer will give you this as long as you can identify yourself as a bonafide owner of the vehicle.

What LRNA suffers from is a complaint path back to the original factory source when the dealer has been unable to fix a problem with the vehicle. This is the stem of most all of LRNA image problems.

I wish the best in your endeavour.

As a side note, the warranty was only 3 years/42,000 miles until 1997, so the warranty history in LR's national computer database is only a small portion of that vehicle's life. Anything after the warranty was over will only be accessible to the dealer where the work was done.

Bret,
If this is your first Land Rover purchase, you may want to pay for an inspection report from either a Land Rover dealer or independant. I've done a few pre-purchase inspections at North Texas Rovers, and have been able to provide propectous owns with lots of insight. The $75 - $150 could be well spent.

Just a thought.
