Hi guys,

I am going to do a master cylinder change this weekend (hopefully!).
I have a question regarding priming the master cylinder. Once I take the old one out, is it suffucient to put the new one in place, fill the master cylinder and then bleed the brakes or is there some additional step necessary to prime the master cylinder?

Any advice woul be appreciated.

Thanks

Freddy

Ideally you want to bench bleed the MC prior to install - you either need to submerge it completely in brakefluid or take some old lines and form a loop from ports to reservoir. Then just pump the piston until it is fully circulated.

With that being said - I've also done it wihtout bench bleeding with success too.

PS - this is assuming a non-ABS RRC. Different issues if it is an ABS truck.

Bench bleeding makes the system bleed much less painful. I agree with Bill that it is a worthwhile thing to do. If possible do it with the lines looping in to the reservoir (unless you are a lot neater than I am, the other way results in a huge mess).

Yes,

It is a nonABS truck so I am ok there.
If I am going to attempt the bench, would it be feaasible to mount it in the truck, loop lines and then pump the brake pedal. I am unsure of how to hold it on a bench. Little concerned about damaging anything. After all they are quite expensive.

Yep - OK to do it mounted in truck that way too
