im looking to find pricing and options for a roof rack for my 97 hse. I might want a stock roof rack, or the adventure rack from land rover. Ive been looking online, but cant find any links or pricing. Can you guys help me out with suggestions? Money is a major factor...unless anyone wants to give me a bday present and help me out. Thanks, Robert |

Hi Robert, There are a couple of factory options: 1. The adventure rack 2. The sport rack 3. The roof rails and rail grabbers http://www.roverconnection.com/RR4%20Acc%20Pix/r4rack.htm http://www.roverconnection.com/RR4%20Acc%20Pix/rr4rack2.htm I have had the sport rack and the rail grabbers on my previous 4.0 and now have the adventure on my current 4.0. By far the easiest to use and best load space is the adventure rack, but sadly it is also the most expensive. You could get by with the sport rack and add some kind of basket thing from Thule or Yakima or use a rocket box. But having had all three, I would strongly suggest the adventure rack, you will be disappointed with the others. I got mine used for a little more than half the original price, they are out there but may take a little time to find a good used one. Put a want add on dweb, Lrx.com, and roversnorth BBS. Check ebay too, I have seen them for auction there but very rarely. Take your time and find a used Adventure rack or save your money for a new one, don't waste your money like I did with the others. |

The only other rack I could track down for the P38A is the hannibal rack, an all ally construction rack, can be powder coated. As it has wide bars it does not need any ply. Costs about 700 +VAT here in the UK. http://www.hannibalusa.com/hse.htm http://www.hannibalusa.com/images/roofracks/LR-HSE/1.jpg If you ever want to fit a roof tent then I would go for hannibal as sides can be specified to accept one. For the Safety Devices one you'll have to cut bars or raise tent above bars. I'm personally leaning towards the hannibal rack as it will not rust if powder coat get's chipped, doesn't need the marine ply (which bends after a while), and has all accesory fittings available. The SD ladder looks like it will work with the hannibal rack if a ladder is required. Benefit of SD rack is low profile fitting and full use of roof length compared to hannibal one. Cheers Steve |
