Hello all, I'm new here and wondered if anyone can help me out.. I saw the post down the page a but on a same topic, but figured I would start a new thread to ask my own questions.

I may go this week ot look at a 90 RR County in my town.. It has 120K mile on it and the owner says it has no rust and needs nothing. Supposedly the Rover spent the frist 10 years of its life in the south and the last four around here... Well he did say that the drivers side window just stopped working after a service and the door locks need adjusted. Other than that the Rover supposedly needs nothing.

Any suggestions? I will look down the oil fill to see what color the interals are as well as check out the Rover top to bottom. I have been over at rangerovers.net looking at everything about these as far a problems and fixes...

They're asking $4600.... Too high of a price?

This will be my first Rover and I have wnated one since I first rode in an 89 back when it was new, but never bought one.

Thanks!!!

rust. make sure that it is not rusty. look for holes anywhere under the carpet. under the front foot wells and in the rear cargo area. lift the carpet up and check. look for rust on the frame. check engine performance, check braking performance, check that all electrics are in working order, heated seats, alarm, cruise controll. listen for clunks as you drive. look for oil leaks. inspect the exhaust system for corrosion.
it dosent hurt to look at and test drive as many rovers as you can to get the feel for them. you will tell which one suits you and wich one dosent. dont be afraid of working on these trucks your self. they are not complicated at all...

Ya, I am a little bothered by that since I am used to working on GM's.. Only thing that kinda scares me is that my friend who works at a local GM dealer said they had a 96 RR that they sold and the engine died pulling out of the parking lot. Turns out the only engine they could find was $8600! Although thats the 4.0 or 4.6, and the 90 will have a 3.5.. Correct?.. The engine and are really the only things that worry me.(as long as there is no rust)
Thanks.

90 has the 3.9 liter. If you can work on GMs you will see a lot of similarity in the parts. If you can read a meter you will do fine with these vehicles. Mechanically they are quite good vehicles, its the electrics that wear you out. I purchased a 1990 RR with 127000 18 mos ago for less than what they are asking for yours. Now on the other hand I have probably 9K total in it with mods and maintenace.

you asked about a range rover classic? not a second generation rnage rover? the two are completely different! and if you are concerend about the engine and transmission then pull them out of the truck and but in a small block v8 and gm transmission. i saw a older jaqg not too long ago with this conversion done. clean and professional... and if you relly horse it around you will bust your axles or diffs that is the notorious rover falt. broken axles. in 1990 they dont have 24 spline so you will have to upgrade, lockers require at least 24 spline..... maybe not the truck for you. stick with a 1979 one tonne pick up. stick a gun rack in the back, and hang a flag in there some where!
i tend to get scared working on toyata's they really scare me, sometimes i cry. why are you even wrenching on a vehicle if you are scared of it? dosent make sense.... "im scared" mommies boy!

I would definitely check out the rear tailgate. As Micky said check under the floor mats. Especially where the "dead pedal" is. Check the 3rd member the shock on the top of the rear differential. They are somewhat expensive to replace if they are shot. Of course you should look for any little thing that might make your ride uncomfortable. If it is going to stay on the road (heaven forbid) something as simple as a torn sunroof cover could drive you nuts. I have an 89 with well over 250k. It is awesome. Its easy to work on runs great (although it's getting a little tired) I absolutely love it. Good luck!!

WTF did I do to deserve a post like this? I asked an honest question.. If i wanted a stupid 79 1 ton I would go buy one. But I dont, I want a Land ROve rof some type. And the vehicel I am refering to is a 1990 Range Rover County... I dotn want ot swap a GM anything into this thing, if i buy a Land Rover that what I want, not a hybrid. And when I said I was scared of something maybe I used the wrong type of wording but again did not deserve the stupid mommis boy comment... And I went and did a search on car-parts.com and the used engines aren't all that bad in price. And where did the Toyota comment come from? Your first post was very helpful, but your second post is very lacking and makes you out to be a jackass!

Micky just because you have a tiff with Kyle leave the guy alone. Maybe you should stay off dweb a little while until you get your attitude in check. You were way off line on your comment

Michael,

also check-out some of the archived threads on RRs as there is some good information on this bbs.

everything mentioned so far has been on the money. keep in mind LR holds dear to their hearts RR parts and they really are quite expensive.

RUST is the real big deal killer on RaRos. I finally found a '94 in S.Cal. and its totally rust free. take your time in the search and try to get one from the dry climate States.

Good luck.

oh, and q Micky_Dee

Micheal-

Ignore micky dee. He is being a "titanic" a-hole and I'll bet he is close to hitting a Dweb iceberg.

MDee and Kyle are the resident wise-guys - not the Soprano kind either. Although, IF a Soprano-type wise-guy happened to here and found out where they lived....Buda-Bing!
