What have P38A owners done about recovery points on the front of their cars - noting that the car comes with only the front loop on one side of the chassis? Surely this would/could place too much load on one side of the chassis if used with any degree of gusto? Ron |

that sucker will also pop right off. it's just a transport tie down. my friend and i are about to do a light/stealth build of a p38 and we'll be putting jate rings in the front. |

Hi Jack FYI - it is a rated recovery point not a tie down. The two tie downs are on the back of the front submember. In this shot you can see that with the pull the RR was effectively being pulled into aswell as up the bank, exerting quite a force, enough in fact to break the chain on the PTO winch. http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auction/Mar/2004383468201697112744.jpg http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auction/Mar/2004385468702197613844.jpg However, (as you can see) it can be bent and therefore weakened. So I wouldn't recommend using after this. How are you going to fix the jate rings to effect decent recovery points?? Can't see how you are going to place these to be easy to get at in a recovery and without the wire/rope coming into contact with subframes, condensors etc. Front recovery points are difficult on a P38. Effectively you have to either go for a custom bumper arrangement with recovery points on or fit the LR winch mount and mod some recovery pints to this. You could also re-inforce the front sub frame and then mount two recovery points to this. Cheers Steve |
