I've been trying to locate the rattle myself, but I'll have to ask for help. Its a 95 RRC and I've got a metalish rattle in the sunroof in the location above the domelight. I've checked the winddeflector and it is secure. Strangely enough the rattle usually happens when a car is in front of me and it looks like the turbulence makes it rattle. Now it sounds more like a rod and I don't think it is the motor as it is pretty secure. Does anyone have any idea (it drives me nuts) before I need to take the complete thing apart.

Check to see if its the inside cover. If I don't push mine all the way back and firmly "jam" it in the headliner, it rattles a bit, especially if the sunroof is open and the air can catch the cover. There is a metal rail or something that seems to be the bit that end up rattling against the sunroof. This help?

It is not the inside cover as the rattle is there when the sunroof is closed with the headliner all the way pushed back.

I'm starting to get closer to the problem. http://community.webshots.com/photo/45191645/45191722iqHhUW shows a picture of a glass sunroof in a RRC with the headliner down and I suspect that the nut to the left of the switch in that shot isn't tight. When it rattles I clearly hear a washer. I suspect the only way to know for sure is to take the complete headliner down or is there a way to tighten this up through the domelight assembly fitting ?

(just trying to prevent extra work from happening)

Well I fixed the problem today. Took the headliner out today (nice weather for it anyways) and the problem was easily located. It wasn't really the sunroof, but something little bit more serious. As you know the roof of the Range Rover is actually fitted to the body with screws (lots of them). In the front there should be 10 screws with washers holding the roof down. In my case there were only 3 left ... and those were even lose. Pretty much what happens then is that when you drive the roof is 'lifted up' and starts rattling and water could leak through. I put in new screws and tightened up the remaining ones and the rattle is gone. Funny is that I did find all the washers on top of the headliner for the missing screws, but that I could not find any of the missing screws anywhere so I assumed this was a process that has been going on for a while. I took a bunch of pictures of the process and will upload those to my website later when I have time. Maybe the shots will help other people if they need to look for something behind the headliner :-)
