Does anyone know if the RR4.0, disco4.0, 4.6, and 3.9 use the same oil pump, front cover and other oil sending components?.
My range rover lost oil pressure after an oil change and it might need some of these parts replaced.
Thanks

The 4.0 and 4.6 have the pump driven by the nose of the crankshaft - the pump is inside the timing cover and I think you have to buy the complete timing cover and pump. Check www.rpiv8.com for a pump. I read that the pumps are hard to find - I just hope I never need one.

Thanks for the info Ron. Someone from the board offered the component(s) from his spare 4.6 to me but we're not sure if they're interchangeable. If anyone knows, please post here.
thanks

Chris, I checked last night on my 4.6 and as Ron said you have to remove the front cover. I can remove it from my engine w/o any problems since it's sitting on an engine stand but removing the front cover from your engine will be a bit time consuming.

I guess we have to remove the fan, tension pulleys, steering pump, fan shroud and maybe a few more items.

I'll remove the cover today and let you know how it goes.

John

Thanks John! I'm reading up on it. Let me know if you can use the FSM.

Have you checked the oil pan for contaminates yet? I've seen more clogged sumps than oil pump failures. Just a thought before replacing the cover.

Not yet. I'm taking the pan down sometime this week. The rover was towed to a local shop after the oil pressure went down. The initial diagnosis was oil pump even before they took one bolt from the engine. Needless to say, I had the rover towed to my house the day after. Basically, I'm bracing for the worst case scenario and John C was nice enough to offer the parts. Hopefully it's just the clogged sump/screen.
Thanks for the input.
