I have a basically stock Gulf Country spec 1999 RR 4.0 SE. Checking the AC for the up-coming summer (starts in mid-March) I found the AC window display showing a "manual" (book) icon and no air coming from the upper vents. I get cold air from the top and bottom, but not the dash vents. I can get air to blow from the dash vents using just the fan, but not when the AC is running. I'm thinking relay but without an OBD reader (its on order), I can't be sure. ANY THOUGHTS? Thanks in advance. SandMan |

Could be the distribution flap servo. Can you direct the air where you want with the distribution controls (except to the vents)? Can you direct it to the screen or floor alone? Ron |

Without the AC on, I can get air from the dash vents. With the AC on, nothing comes from the dash vents. I get air top and bottom with or without AC on. It's really wierd. SandMan P.S. Will the "distrib flap servo" show up on the OBDII reader? |

Re the OBD-II reader, no, it won't show up the HEVAC system. Engine only. I don't understand why the problem only occurs with the AC on and that you can direct air with the AC off. You say you can get it with the fan but not AC. Is that in Auto mode when it doesn't go to the vents? If so, try operating the distribution controls manually. Also check David Sparkes' Climate Control Troubleshooting at http://www.rangie.com/articles_model.php?id=72&modelId=2 |

Ron, Thanks for the advice. I'll check the link for trouble shooting and try the AC in manual mode too. I was only trying it in AUTO. SandMan |

The AC in mine is acting up. Sometimes it works then quits blowing cold. The dealer said it needs a new Heater Core Temp Sensor and a new AC Clutch Harness. Does anyone have any part numbers and/or know where these parts are located on the engine. Thanks a lot. |

For the clutch, try this first: http://www.rangerovers.net/newrremedies.htm#airconditioning Sensor, scroll down, there is a pic of where it is: http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/heateroring.html |
